This weekend we celebrate the life of Adam Hillier. The Molch Memorial Surging Classic is in its 25th year. This is a legacy to the person he was and the strength of our community. I still see him and feel him. I think my kids look forward to it more than me. That’s the kicker. 🍻

🫡The end of an era. These two and their humble fish and chip shop have been an institution in Bateau Bay for over 35 years. They are no longer seen to be of value to the area and have been forced to close. A sad day I reckon.

I remember riding to the beach as a young kid and always saving a few bucks to get a scallop burger and chips pack on the way home after surfing all day. Sitting in the vacant lot next door against the wall sun burnt with my mates and devouring it all with a glass bottle of coke chaser.

There was once a another takeaway shop next door, Phoenix Chickens, and to this day I am proud that I never set foot in it. Staying loyal to Byth and fearing that if he ever saw me it would spell an end to the extra mountains of chips and scallops he would always give me.

Col has feed my family and has been nothing but a genetleman to us all. A hard seemingly grumpy exterior but a true softy at heart. Always giving the kids free lollies and pushing us to the front of the line in the busy holiday season. Greeting us with a smile and others with a grunt. Many might think he was rude but I don't think they gave him enough time or respect.

Thanks for everything Colin and Denise and wishing you both all the best in retirement.

Bateau Bay will miss you.

It's taken me a few days to get my head around this. Kinda rattled me at first but after some thought a few things came to mind.

An old mate and mentor usedto always remind me about the importance of "being part of something bigger than yourself." And I suppose this is what this means to me.

I was a member of the club as a young kid with my mates riding from Bateau on our pushies and then in my late teens the club kinda disappeared. Not sure why.

This area has a steep history of amazing surfers and community members that built and took club to some epic highs. Then for it to not exist was something that didn't sit right with me and a few others. I used to go to each monthly comp and be blown away by the surfing I was witnessing.

After one or two massive MOLCH Memorial contests we decided to get the club up and running. We saw how supportive and how much our community frothed on being together.

Many doubted us and many knocked us at first. See surfing is an individual sport fraught with ego, bravo and entitlement. But this club was so much bigger than any one person. This is a community. We help each other out. Celebrate the wins and be there to support each other in the tough times.

I was honoured to be part of that small group of boys and BOB some 20 years ago that got it back up and running. We were hopeless. We didn't know what we were doing but we made a pack to not throw in the towel. It was some of the funnest times of may life.

We played the long game and now we are here as the No 1 Club in Australia. To be a small part of that and still helping out and designing the shirts today made this pretty cool. My kids love surfing and being part of it all as well and it looks like I might be around for another 20.

This is Ian. My 80 yr old neighbor. He has lived here for over 50 years in this house. He spent his time as a local butcher. He tells me he misses working and can’t handle sitting on his ass all day. He has openly told me numerous times he struggles with his mental health. Often having suicidal thoughts as he struggles with extreme back pain from multiple back surgeries and now clots on his lungs. He questions why doctors keep him alive. I know he loves the street, the kids and his family. He still holds the trophy for the best lawn in the street. A fu***ng legend. Onya Ian. ❤️

I spent an hour this morning capturing a small part of Steve's story for R U OK Day. Helping raise awareness around how important it is to check in our your family and friends.

You don't need to be an expert to have a conversation. Listening and giving someone your time might just be what they need to help turn a tricky corner in their lives and help them through.

Steve's story is far deeper and complex than this short video allows, though he gave me some real perspective. It was good to deliver some authenticity in a sometimes fake and trending space. If this can push one person to ask the question or help one person reach out for help it's all worth it i reckon.

Thanks for another great opportunity.

🤔 Sometimes I wonder how I got here… At times I feel like these contraptions are part of my body. 🐙 🙈👴🏻

It’s been a mental run of creating content for some amazing brands and people since I started this thing close to 5 years ago to the day. No more so then this year.

Filming, editing, photography, graphic design, social media, branding, strategy, and all the other stuff that comes with chasing your own dreams has been fu***ng hard work but I am so grateful to have had these opportunities and for the help and support from so many people especially my wife ❤️

For me it’s the people and places that inspire me to keep creating and telling stories.

Like today. This a original captured while shooting a content series for 📷

A big day of filming but also a big day of sharing stories. An inspiring man. The places on this planet he has been, experienced and captured is mind boggling. If you ask him if he has been there… chances are he has. Anywhere. With a solid story of adventure and education to boot. He doesn’t believe in “taking” pictures he believes in “partaking”. Giving back and listening to the people and the land that he is privileged to shoot. I could go on for ever. Oops I already have. 🙈👴🏻

Anyway, put a fork in me. Looking forward to downing the tools for a few weeks very soon. ❄️🌴

📸 The tropical north for featuring

A video project documenting Glenn on a recent commercial assignment in and around Cairns. Sharing his story and how his gear helps him tell it. A longer format style video showing in the new Fuji flagship store in Sydney and other likely social and digital spaces.

Getting away to new places and finding a story has always been the my favorite type of work. More to come. 🎥
