Let’s talk milestones 💛
As we grow from sweet newborn babies into teenagers and beyond, milestones are celebrated, cheered, and proudly shared by parents and carers. They’re moments of joy, proof of growth, and little reminders that we’re moving forward.
The truth about disability is that milestones are often delayed, harder to achieve, and sometimes may never be reached. But the joy and sense of accomplishment? They’re just as real — if not more so.
For families like ours, celebrations might look a little different. Holding a spoon independently. Making eye contact. Small things to some, huge victories to us. These celebrations are often quieter, sometimes unnoticed, and rarely spoken out loud — but they matter deeply.
For our Josh, milestones have come along at a slower, more challenging pace. And often, they take us completely by surprise. You’re mid-sentence, then suddenly stop — wait… are we all seeing this? — because he’s doing something new, something clever, something amazing.
One of those moments happened just last week. We noticed Josh undoing his shoelaces before taking off his sneakers. A first. And honestly? Pretty incredible to witness.
Another recent achievement is independently taking off his clothes — especially his shirt.
YAY! 🙌
Josh, look at you go.
Here’s the thing though… Josh now believes this impressive new skill should be demonstrated whenever he feels like expressing cleverness, frustration, agitation — or just because he can 😅
So, with our deepest apologies for any impromptu shirtless performances you may witness while he’s out and about…
Happy Shirtless Friday 🌞
