Love how many mentions there are of the businesses located here in Baxter! 🫶
This is such a great reminder for us all to support the small family owned businesses we have around here!
Righto gang, serious question, when did we all collectively decide the only shopping experience left in life was either a giant warehouse where you need a GPS and emotional support just to find socks, OR ordering random crap online at 11:47pm while lying in bed looking like a dropped pie.
The amount of bloody awesome small businesses we’ve got on this peninsula is unreal and winter is the rough season for a lot of them. Once the tourists disappear and the weather turns feral, it’s us locals keeping the lights on and the coffee machines breathing.
So I wanna do a proper shoutout post. Tag your favourite small business below and tell me WHY you love them. Could be a café, butcher, gift shop, tradies, pub, bakery, hairdresser, mechanic, candle joint, plant place, whatever. I wanna hear the stories. My butcher is Cliffex meats in rosey or when I’m in somie Somerville Village Meats
Maybe your local café remembers your coffee order before your own husband does. Maybe your butcher calls you “legend” while handing over 14 sausages and a tray of rissoles like you’re preparing for the apocalypse. Maybe the lady at the gift shop has personally saved your arse 6 times before birthdays you forgot existed.
Read the comments too because honestly some of the best places are the tiny little hidden gems tucked between a v**e shop and an abandoned real estate office with three faded SOLD stickers from 2021.
My newest favourite is Evergreen Clothing in Mornington. Finally found a shop that sells clothes for mums who still wanna look semi-cool without dressing like either a corporate accountant or a 19-year-old Coachella influencer on ketamine. I walked in for “a quick look” and walked out looking like I own crystals and know how to make sourdough.
Honestly support the little guys where you can. The big chains will survive the winter. Lisa Scents from the Heart Candles selling homemade candles out of a tiny shop next to a fish and chipper probably needs us more than Kmart does.
Now go on. Tag your favourites and let’s accidentally bankrupt ourselves supporting local legends.
Btw, my lashes look this good because of Beauty Society Mornington by Dannah Chaise and my fresh facial by Beauty Exposed Boutique
