The supply of single-use plastic cups for cold drinks is banned from today, saving up to 181 million cups from landfill and litter each year.π«
This completes the first stage of WA's Plan for Plastics, which also includes the ban of:
π plates
π bowls
π cutlery
π drink stirrers
π drinking straws
π thick plastic shopping bags
π expanded polystyrene (ESP) takeaway food containers
π helium balloon releases
π unlidded containers
A continued supply will be ensured for community members who depend on single-use plastic straws to maintain their quality of life.
Disposable options will also still exist, with certified compostable cups and lids excluded from the ban and already widely used by businesses.
