At Talbot Crescent Habitat Park in Toorak, 400 tonnes of Category B contaminated soil presented a potential $140,000 disposal bill.

Cutting reo high on a diaphragm wall using manual oxy cutting isn't just labour intensive. It increases safety exposure, requires additional personnel, hot works permits and can slow critical excavation works.

On the North East Link Lower Plenty Cut & Cover Project, crews needed a safer and more efficient way to complete D-wall breakout works inside a constrained tunnel shaft environment.

Rather than relying on manual cutting methods from ground level, Focus Machinery engineered a specialist package built around a Kobelco SK225 excavator, Embrey EDS12 rotating shears and demolition guarding, configured specifically for the site conditions, reach requirements and project compliance standards.

The result.
• 357 machine hours completed
• 100% uptime achieved

• Programme maintained without delay

The rotating shear configuration allowed crews to cut reo directly from the excavator, reducing manual handling, improving productivity and lowering safety exposure compared to traditional oxy cutting methods.
