🔒 DON'T FORGET TO LOCK YOUR CAR! 🚘

Please ensure your vehicle is LOCKED when you walk away from it - if you're not sure, go back and check. Cars that have been left unlocked are the most commonly targeted by thieves.

Theft from cars is more common than you think. If you’re out and about, don’t leave valuables - visible or hidden - in your car.

Recently a woman parked her car at a local shopping centre in the Casey area. After she finished her shopping she put her kids in the backseat, left her keys in the car and loaded her shopping in the boot. She then walked just a few metres to return her trolley and whilst doing so, a man jumped into the driver’s seat and drove out of the carpark with her children still in the car.

Fortunately, the man was swiftly arrested across the road from the shopping centre and the kids were returned to their mother unharmed.

This is a timely reminder to always lock your doors, no matter how long you are away from your car for – it only takes a split second for an opportunistic thief to pounce.

**CAUTION! CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFTS**

Whether you are aware of the function, location or value of a catalytic converter, thieves do!

Thieves do not steal the catalytic converter because they break down harmful exhaust gases. They steal them because they contain valuable metals, that they can sell for a pretty penny.

Members of the community should be aware that Toyota HiAce van catalytic converters are the flavour of the month.

The thefts are occurring at different locations and include the carparks of businesses.

How to tell if your catalytic converter has been stolen:

• Turn on the vehicle engine
• Your vehicle makes a loud roaring sound (loader than normal)
• The noise becomes louder when you put your foot on the gas

Preventative measures:

• Park in a visible and well-lit area
• Park near security cameras, if possible
• Turn on your vehicle daily and check the sound
