ARE YOU CONSIDERING SWITCHING CAREERS?
If you’re considering moving from one occupational career to another, the so-called “second act”, like I did, there are a few things you need to consider before you jump ship.
Consider the following…

1. What really motivates you?
What is it that gets you up every morning to do what you do and how do you feel about it? Does it reflect on your goals? Take a look back. Reflect on how you begun and if you’re off track, try to reconnect with lost goals. Are you still motivated to achieving your goals or are you no longer enjoying what you do? There is one way of finding out.

2. Are you a friend of change?
With change comes opportunities. Be open and receptive to new ideas. This will give you flexibility and create new opportunities for you. Nothing in life is a constant. If you want to learn and grow, you have to be prepared to come out of your comfort zone.

3. Chase your Passion, not jobs!
Switching careers really aren’t about chasing money, but rather about chasing your passion. What is it that you really enjoy doing, that gives you personal satisfaction, joy, happiness and purpose in life? Goals without purpose is like asking a fish to climb up a tree!
It’s important therefore, that you take some time out to reflect on what really motivates you; what is it that will drive you to get you out of bed each day to do something with purpose; that will provide you with financial freedom and the lifestyle you seek.

4. Seek help!
As per Arianna Huffington…” It’s not ‘what do I want to do?’ It’s ‘What kind of life do I want to have?’”
When considering your “second act”, like I did, it can be tough believing only in yourself and what your ‘inner voice’ tells you.
A business coach or mentor can help. They can guide you and provide you with an unbiased, broader perspective and objective view. And there are also tools you can use to help you identify what really motivates you.

We all have good and bad habits that either help us grow and succeed or prevent us from reaching our goals. Many of us are successful at implementing strategies to change bad habits when it concerns our weight, health, and overall well-being, but very few of us can do the same when it concerns our career, financial security, and business planning for the future.

We spend a lot of time and money attending motivational talks, buying books and programs with great ideas on how to change our lives...but we find that we tend to procrastinate when we try to implement what we have learnt; we fail to set ourselves simple, practical goals. Our old habits set in, take control of our lives and we end up doing very little or nothing at all! But, have you ever considered that habits can only be changed over a period of time...not overnight after attending a motivational talk! I've learnt that and today I'm able to help others achieve that quicker without "re-inventing the wheel".
