Mali Roberts

Mali Roberts My services are offered to help either coaches or players directly. You can choose to either have a consultation, something more practical, or both.

I am Mali Roberts and I have been playing netball since the age of eight. I have played at club, district, state and national level. As a coach, I currently hold the Intermediate level accreditation and recent coaching roles within regional Victoria have included Assistant Coach at Calivil United Football Netball Club (2013 season), Head Coach at Strathfieldsaye Storm Football Netball Club (2014 a

nd 2015 seasons) and Assistant Coach for the BFNL Open Team (2015 and 2016) Head Coach at Eaglehawk Football Netball Club (2017, 2018,2019). Netball is my passion and I would like to be able to share my experience and knowledge of the game with individuals, coaches and players. Everyone is different, and I recognise that, and I will tailor solutions to your netballing needs.

Hi everyone, it has been a long time since I have connected through my page. Sorry for the absence.

Soooo, a lot has happened since last year. The biggest news I guess is I've moved home to Brisbane. I was always coming back eventually just had a few priorities to complete first over the last few years. I am happy to be home with my family.

I was in Bendigo for 8 years, worked hard and a lot, across various networks, met some great people and enjoyed the Regional Victorian lifestyle.

Thank you all for your business and support while in Victoria. It is great to see we've progressed through COVID, with the occasional set back/lockdown and most clubs/leagues at least hit the courts this year. I wish all clubs, coaches, players and umpires a successful season ahead. Remember, regardless of the outcome, there are always positives in an experience and always lessons learnt. Be thankful for every one of these members, they care enough to be there for you and with you. Without them, it would be very hard to play the sport you love. Also, remembering to thank club workers, volunteers and sponsors where you can. These people consistently give their time, efforts and money to your clubs, contributing to its successful operation.

Thank you to all those who have kept in touch and those who have allowed me to continue my business over the phone where I can; consulting, planning and analysing training sessions/match play from afar. It has been great to continue these relationships and keep my netball mind going.

Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or need advice and I will help where I can. If I return to Bendigo over the coming years, I will advise contacts in case anyone would like a session while I am there.

As for QLD - I won't be providing services here just yet but watch this space, may be something over the next year. I will see how things pan out.

All the best everyone, take care, happy netballing and keep smiling😊

Hi everyone, I hope you and your families are keeping safe and well during these uncertain times.

I’m sure many of you are missing netball and thinking the season would have started already, or about to 😞 For many though, I know it has given us the opportunity to slow down, catch up and perhaps get on top of the other jobs and areas of our life that take a back seat to netball some times🙂

During this down time - it may be a good chance to prepare your resources (info manuals, training plans, tips etc) and/or focus on your coaching and umpiring development.

I know for Netball Victoria (NV) they are currently in the process of confirming some online courses. I assume all states would be in the same boat also, especially for courses forming a part of the National Accreditation Framework, set by Netball Australia. I know for coaching, NV are waiting to hear if can run the theory part online and complete the practical component later in the year.

So, if you are wanting to get on top of your development while you have some time, it may be worth contacting your respective Netball Member Organisation to find out what they may offer as alternatives. In the mean time perhaps keep an eye on their social media pages and websites for updated information.

Take care all!

Before the AFLCV directive to cease all trainings, I was able to complete two sessions with Marong FNC. Fantastic numbers at both sessions for all 4 teams - well done! Running for over 2 hours each session the girls were completely engaged the whole time which was impressive. We covered spatial awareness, timing, prelim movements, varying up passes and when to use them, communication, transition and some attacking and backline set ups.

Thanks to Bianca Garton for setting up the sessions and allowing me to work with Marong again after 4 years (wow does time fly). All the best Marong.

Hopefully things settle soon so everyone can get back to training!

A big thank you to Tegan Phillips and the Inglewood FNC for having me out at their club the last couple weeks. We ran two sessions with all grades/squads - one on attacking and one on defence. It covered all basics but with the girls adjusting well, we were able to progress in drills and skills quite quickly, making them more intense and harder. A great bunch of girls who were enthusiastic, positive and very grateful which was lovely. All the best for the season Inglewood!

Three months into the year already – wow has time flown!! Thank you to the clubs I have worked with prior to Christmas and early this year. For clubs, we’ve worked on restructuring, securing coaches and planning trials, and for individuals preparing for trials. It has been great getting to know my new clients and continuing working with my previous ones.

I only have a few spots available between now and August so please message me if you are wanting to book something in. You can check out my prices on the Services tab.

It is good to see some clubs have commenced preseason training and others to commence soon. Every club and their respective requirements are different. However, don’t wait too long. Preseason training is not just to improve fitness. Its focus can also be (and not limited to):
- team and club bonding

- getting to know your players and how they learn best

- individual and team goal setting

- implementing boundaries

- commencing physical, mental and technical development through drills and feedback

All of the above create the backbone to providing your team and club with the best possible chance of success.

Planning your preseason right up to that first game is extremely important.

Remember your preseason training should:
- be netball-specific - explaining to your players why and how it relates to the game helps them understand things better. For players – don’t be afraid to ask your coaches questions too, when you don’t understand

- progressively increase in load over the weeks/months - this allows players to adapt better to training and netball (especially if not netballing in the off-season) and helps reduce risk of injury

- include interval training, strength and conditioning, a ball where possible - you don’t have to wait until closer to match play to include ball work

- work on the basics and control any bad habits and implement new habits/discipline

- introduce match play where you can later in your program, in order to plan session content more specifically once some basics are addressed

It is important to incorporate this variety in preseason training so that players are engaged and developing early, allowing you to focus on the more tactical areas later on. You don’t want to get to your first match and find these basics are lacking more than expected

All the best everyone - happy netballing and bring on Season 2020!

It has been a while since I have posted anything. Sorry about that and thank you for the constant reminders. Most of you know I am pretty terrible at Facebook – clearly 😐. Although you haven’t heard from me, doesn’t mean I haven't been doing anything 😊

First of all, as per my last post, the business did take a back seat this year in order to focus on my other netball roles and my full time job. Thank you to everyone who respected that decision and supported me.

Preseason saw a few clubs requiring assistance with their trials and some specialist work leading into the season. Throughout the season saw a few regular one on ones. Sometimes players get in a rut and just need some reassurance, a confidence boost or even just to know what to say to their coaches and team mates. This is what I am here for and nothing ever brought to me is too small, too big or too silly.

I have also been doing some specialist work back at school with ADP . Thank you to coach Lauren Bowles for keeping me involved. I still love and believe in that program. It was good to see the girls again and meet some new ones. Great numbers in the program.

A few years down the track and I caught up with Birchip again. Was a great visit with coach Shannon Dean and my mum (😊) who was visiting. I, as you will see in the photos, was in a sling as I dislocated my shoulder…BUT nothing was stopping me getting there to see Kylie and the crew. We worked on a few areas such as the importance of hitting the court warmed up, dictating your player, spatial awareness down the court and channels, zones and the importance of everyone committing as well as specialist attack and defence work.

Congratulations to those clubs who made the finals. Some leagues are finished and some still going. Good luck to all over the coming weeks.

Coaches and players - make sure you have a break before the end of the year. A lot of coaches keep planning for the next year and players want to be fit for preseason and don’t stop. Your mind and body needs a break. It doesn’t have to be long but it does need it, so be smart, have a break, enjoy Christmas and start your year energised and ready to go.

Clubs wanting assistance in the lead up to 2020, please make contact. I already have a few bookings for trials, club restructuring, coach recruitment and advice prior to January and some bookings for regular specialist work next year. Send me a PM or email me and we can work something out.

Take care all!

Hi everyone!

As most of you may know – I was all set ready to move back to Brisbane at the end of the year. That has now changed and I am staying on. I was offered a job at work and thought I’d take that opportunity while I can. It has been a hectic couple of months!

My new role at work will need to be my priority so unfortunately for my netball business – this means I will not be able to continue at full capacity. I may do one on one sessions now and then upon request but will struggle to fit in the bigger jobs out of town. You can all still contact me whenever you need to and if I can, I will fit it in but there are no guarantees unfortunately.

I am working until the 17th December and booking out fast with pre-tryout sessions and club re-structures so please ensure you message me if you need to fit something in over the coming weeks.

I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for all your support over the years – with a lot of you working with me around my work and personal commitments. I really appreciate and value the support you have given me – a lot of you even treating me like part of your family, especially with some of you as regular customers.

I hope to see you all or hear from you soon!

Good luck with tryouts and coaching appointments!
