A business sale isn't a finish line. It's a baton change.
Most people walk into a negotiation thinking about price the way they would a car or a property - push hard, get the number down, close it out, move on. Some brokers run it that way too. I don't think that's good enough for either side.
A business sale is different. For the seller, it's years of effort and relationships handed over to someone new. For the buyer, it's not just an asset - it's the risk and the future performance of something about to be entirely theirs.
Like any good baton change, it only works if both runners stay engaged in the handoff. Let go too early, or grip too hard, and the whole thing falls apart. Push too hard on price, and you might save a few dollars while losing a vendor who was genuinely going to go above and beyond during handover.
My job isn't just to get a deal done. It's to manage the handoff itself - because that's what actually protects the business long after I've moved on to the next listing.
If you're buying or selling and want a broker who thinks about what happens after settlement, I'd welcome the conversation.
