Nobody's business has ever got better from a 10pm scroll through the Facebook groups.

Ebony's had a gutful of the doom and gloom in there lately and honestly, same. Yes it's tough, and small business is hard going at the moment and I'm not going to tell you it isn't. But somewhere along the way those groups became a place where everyone swaps the worst of it, and you read it, and next thing you're nodding along like it's YOUR business that's cooked too. We've all done it, yeah?

Your staff aren't the problem. Your leadership is.

If you're swearing under your breath every time something doesn't get done right, but you've never actually sat down and said it to their face, mate, that's on you, not them.

There's a three word strategy I give every client for this. Doesn't feel like a hard conversation at all. Just gets them thinking, and gets you seeing exactly where the gaps are.

A business that's almost working... that's actually one of the hardest places to be. Because it's just OKAY ENOUGH to keep going. But NOT good enough to actually feel like it's worth it.

That's exactly where this couple were when they came to us. Work coming in, team ticking along, bills getting paid, and yet at the end of every month, nothing left. Him disappearing into the business before the sun came up and coming home too exhausted to be present. Her watching it happen, knowing it could be different, not knowing how to make him see it.

The thing that had to change first wasn't the tactics. It was the belief that it could actually be different. Because once they genuinely believed that, they stopped defending the way they'd always done things and actually looked at it together.

And what they found was that he was carrying everything. Every decision, every problem, every booking running through him, while the stuff that actually NEEDED him, the pricing, the right work, the team, the planning, kept getting pushed to tomorrow.

So they made the shift. Got clear on the numbers together, handed off the admin and the low value tasks, made one really good hire that created actual breathing room, and started having proper conversations with the team instead of just firefighting all the bloody time.

The result? On track to double their revenue this year. Same hours. Different focus. And she told us the bit that got her wasn't the money. It was that they finally felt like they were building something together instead of him disappearing into it alone.
