Somebody told me recently they felt silly hiring help for "just admin."

There's nothing "just" about it. The admin is the thing that keeps the client happy, the invoice paid, the inbox from becoming a crisis. It's not the glamorous part but it's the part that quietly holds everything else up.

Hand it over and feel silly for about a week, until you realise how much lighter it is.

Something I notice a lot: people email their own referral partners far less than they mean to.

They know those relationships matter. They fully intend to keep them warm. But it's never urgent, so it sits at the bottom of the list forever while the actual-fires get put out first.

That's exactly the kind of thing worth handing over. Not urgent, genuinely important, never gets done. That's my whole category, really.

One of the least glamorous things I do is build templates.

Email templates, correspondence templates, the standard replies someone sends forty times a month but rewrites from scratch every time.

Set it up once, properly, and it saves hours a month forever. Nobody ever asks me for this on day one. They ask for it about two months in, once they trust me with their voice.

Unsubscribe from the newsletters she never reads, clear the folders, set up something that stops it building back up.

She said afterwards it was the calmest she'd felt opening her laptop in a year. 😊

Funny how it's rarely the big scary thing stressing people out. It's the thousands of unread emails sitting there like a low hum.

Had a job recently that was just precise, careful data entry into a client's spreadsheets. The kind where one wrong number isn't "fix it later," it's a real problem.

So I check. Then I check again. Then I come back to it with fresh eyes and check a third time, because that's when you catch the thing you read straight past twice.

Not glamorous. But precise, boring and correct is a genuine skill, and a lot of very sharp people would much rather hand it over than do it themselves.

Social media is the first thing that falls off a busy owner's to-do list, every single time. And it's completely understandable - when you're slammed, a Facebook post is never going to beat an actual paying job.

The problem is it shows. A page that goes quiet for six months tells people something, even if the business is doing great.

That's a big part of what I do for a few clients. They stay focused on the work. I keep the online bit ticking so the quiet never happens.

Wrapping up the month.

Lately I've typed up notes, cleansed inboxes, chased invoices, organised trades, liaised with conveyancers, done research, kept a few social feeds ticking, and sorted gifts for someone who was too busy to.

None of it is glamorous. All of it needed doing. That's the job, and I actually love it.

If your own list of "needed doing but never got to" is growing, that's usually the sign it's time to talk.

A client had me organising gifts recently.

Not a business task exactly - sourcing and arranging gifts for the people who matter to him, personal and professional.

That's the kind of thing that falls off the bottom of a busy person's list every single time. Not important enough to force, too nice to skip. So it just doesn't happen, and they feel a bit bad about it.

Handing me the small human stuff is completely allowed.

Sometimes it's the most valued thing I do all week.

Someone asked how I don't get bored doing admin all day.

Honestly, I don't do "admin all day." Today I've typed up notes, sorted a template, sent correspondence for two different people in two different voices, and organised a building inspection. The variety is the whole appeal.

I get to be inside a handful of very different businesses at once.

Boring is the last word I'd use.

A good chunk of my job is being the person who liaises with everyone else so my client doesn't have to.

Clients. Conveyancers. Property managers. Referral partners. Trades. I'm the one sending the follow-up, chasing the reply, keeping the thread moving.

It's not that my clients can't do it. It's that doing it well takes constant small attention, and they'd rather point that attention at their actual work. Fair enough.
