Stop comparing your prices to others, charge a price that is fair to you, based on the service you provide. Your clients will respect you more for it. Those who don’t are better off not being on your books anyway. Let them leave and keep the clients who appreciate all the hard work you do. ❤️🐾

These are very interesting developments coming from the Fair Work Commission.

We are in unchartered territory and currently there are many cases playing out from employees who have appealed their terminations due to refusing directions to be vaccinated.

I am not answering any queries related to Covid Vaccines as this is not my area of expertise without an existing framework from the commission. I do feel however, that the below document is quite helpful in providing some insight into where workplace laws are most likely heading.

Should you be interested in reading more, the full document from the excerpt below can be found at https://www.fwc.gov.au/documents/decisionssigned/html/2021fwcfb6015.htm?fbclid=IwAR3Rbn6ZuHKhmpj1iLL3vfU8vLQPkxFmz20WDrUwjpKI2Yj3HIV7wgl1Xxs

The Fair Work website has produced some guidelines for employers around Covid 19 diagnosis’s in the workplace and has outlined some of your obligations as an employer.

This information also provides further information related to the Covid 19 vaccination and managing this with your team.

The vaccine is not mandatory for staff within our industry and I recommend people make medical choices based on their own doctors advice (not advice from social media or people who aren’t medically trained).

If you have any queries around the below link, please do not hesitate to send me a message.

I am not providing guidance on business closures or state lockdowns as this is not my area of expertise, and I strongly recommend everyone rely on their own relevant state authority body, police and local mp’s for accurate information.

It’s important for everyone to do their own research and make the best decision for you based on your own personal circumstances.

My expertise remains in the area of payroll, employment relations, onboarding support, employee documentation, performance management, workers compensation and workplace health and safety matters, so if you need support within these areas, please feel free to reach out and I am more than happy to help.

Why should grooming salons implement employment contracts? 🤔🤔🤔

🎯 Your new starter will be clear on the terms and conditions of their employment which removes ambiguity in the workplace if the relationship goes sour.

🎯 Payrates are spelt out from the start so new starters are clear on what they are agreeing to.

🎯Contracts give business owners rights when it comes to protecting confidential information (client info, marketing plans etc) in your business;

🎯 Contracts can prevent your new starter from taking all of your clients if they leave;

🎯 Contracts can assist you if you want to implement a salon policy or new procedure as they provide you the freedom to implement these as a term and condition of employment;

🎯 Contracts can assist you to easily manage a staff member who is demonstrating poor performance at work;

🎯 Contracts can help you easily manage a staff member if they provide you with any fraudulent or misleading information;

The list goes on …. and on.

Contracts just make good business sense. Without a sound employment contract in place, it can be very hard to manage staff and you are opening up many liabilities that could be detrimental to your business.

Groomer’s Hub has been helping Australian salon owners implement contracts into their salon this past year and the feedback has been really positive.

Let’s talk about back pain.

Back pain and grooming go hand in hand - but the good news is, it doesn’t have to be that way!

Grooming is a physical role so maintaining personal standards of health and fitness are absolutely critical if you want a long career in this industry.

One thing you can do to support your overall health is make sure you make it a priority to get enough water in during the day.

Drinking plenty of water throughout the day can help relieve lower back pain by providing the following benefits to your spine and surrounding muscles.

💧 Water keeps the spinal discs full of fluid so they can properly cushion the spine during movement;

💧 Water prevents the surrounding muscles from developing lactic acid, which can cause inflammation and lead to nerve compression.

A good trick for groomers to make sure you easily drink enough water is to stop and prioritise a glass of water in between each client.

Give it a go next time you are working and why not set a challenge for your team! Make it fun to put your own health first. Your body will thank you for it. 💪
