🔨 Builders, when did you last check your subcontractors’ licences?

From 30 March 2026, the QBCC refined its approach to Directions to Rectify. Where a defect is clearly caused by a licensed subcontractor and the evidence supports it, the QBCC may issue the direction to that subcontractor first.

The key word is may. It doesn’t mean every defect will automatically become the subcontractor’s responsibility.

For builders, it’s another reason to check who you’re engaging. Make sure your subcontractors hold the appropriate licence for the work, and keep clear records of who carried out each part of the job.

For subcontractors, it’s a reminder that holding the right licence comes with accountability for your work.
