Braddon's United Retailers and Traders spokesperson Kel Watt said the new [Haig Park community] centre would add a new dimension for local residents.

"We're going to see community groups using the area instead of relying on meetings in coffee shops and restaurants," he said. Mr Watt hoped that it would mean more pedestrian traffic for businesses at the northern end of Braddon.

"So as Haig Park becomes more of a destination and events are held here… it is going to attract more people," he said. "The commercial operators on the northern side of the rainbow roundabout have really been delighted by the amount of extra foot traffic they have had on weekends. "I think we can expect to see that become a seven day a week event, rather than just the occasional Sunday."
