Do you know what's pretty cool?

Helping people start their lives and careers in the land of Oz.

This was not all me and never is.

Besides working with me to create a pretty swish tailored resume and introductory letter, this client (despite being overseas) was incredibly proactive in engaging with recruiters/talent acquisition at companies of interest and making their value known.

Can't wait to see where their career goes from here!

It's a really challenging job market and if you want to truly make a change you'll need to diversify your job search approach in 2021.

That doesn't mean stop applying online. Just please stop the machine gun approach, where you fire off the same resume to 50 different vacancies based on a job title in the hopes that something will stick.

If you are applying online:

☑ Focus on quality over quantity. Can you strongly support that you have the background, industry exposure, skills and experience to do this role?

☑ Tailor your resume each time, making it easy for recruiters to scan to see if you have the technical / professional skills for the job (keywords).

☑ Position yourself immediately with a headline that incorporates the job title and key functions that you specialise in (and which are utilised in the job posting).

☑ Create a skills section showcasing the professional skills required to do the role that you're targeting. Noting hard skills will increase your resume's ability to populate in search results in the recruiter database.

☑ Include accomplishments and quantifiable results that again, evidence your capability to do the role and show how you've made a positive impact.

Three million Australians are planning a post-pandemic career change, making the jump into a completely different field.

Whether spurred by job insecurity or the discovery of a new skill during isolation down time, ING’s Future Focus research found 35 per cent of surveyed Australians wanted a new job after COVID-19, and 17 per cent were rethinking their career path entirely.

Presenting your experience in your resume for a successful career change is a challenge, but certainly not impossible!
