TIP #3: Wear something RED;

Professor Andrew Elliot, a psychologist at the University of Rochester, has studied the effect of colour on personal perception – and discovered that red is best.
"We found that women view men in red as higher in status, more likely to make money and more likely to climb the social ladder. And it's this high-status judgment that leads to the attraction," said Elliot in his 2010 study.

"When women see red it triggers something deep and probably biologically engrained. We say in our culture that men act like animals in the sexual realm, but it looks like women may be acting like animals as well in the same sort of way."

However, the dating experts are quick to warn daters of overdressing. Balfour, who believes that "dating dress code is a minefield", says: "I think a touch of red is good, maybe socks, to create interest and a talking point, but overdressing makes you look needy."
