Are you an experienced painter who loves the trade, but you're starting to think about what's next?
Maybe you've spent years on the tools, run your own business, supervised apprentices or been the person everyone turns to when they need to know how something should be done.
You don't necessarily need to leave the painting industry.
You might just need a different role within it.
Aussie Painters Network is looking for an experienced Painter & Decorator who is interested in making the move into training the next generation of painters.
We're not necessarily looking for an experienced trainer. We're looking for an experienced painter with the right attitude who we can help become a great trainer.
What the role involves.
You'll work with painting apprentices, community and school program participants, helping them develop the practical skills and knowledge they need to become good tradespeople.
This isn't about standing in front of a classroom reading from a textbook. It's about taking the knowledge you've built over years in the industry and passing it on through practical, real-world training.
Depending on the role, you'll be working with apprentices, community and school program participants both at our training facility and out in the industry.
You'll cover areas such as:
โข Surface preparation and repairs
โข Brush, roller and spray application
โข Decorative and specialist finishes
โข Wallpapering
โข Tools and equipment
โข Workplace safety
โข Planning and organising work
โข Quality workmanship and industry standards
โข The practical knowledge that only comes from actually working in the trade
Who we're looking for
You might be a good fit if you:
โข Are a qualified Painter & Decorator with solid industry experience
โข Take pride in doing the job properly
โข Enjoy showing apprentices or younger painters how to improve
โข Have patience and can communicate with people from different backgrounds
โข Understand that everyone learns differently
โข Are comfortable working independently
โข Still want to be involved in the painting industry, but are ready for something different
Previous training experience is an advantage, but it isn't essential.
If you've ever had an apprentice working alongside you and enjoyed watching them develop, you may already have more of the skills needed to become a trainer than you realise.
Don't have your Training & Assessment qualification?
Don't let that stop you from applying.
For the right person, we're prepared to work with you on the pathway into training and obtaining the qualifications required to become a trainer and assessor.
What we can't teach as easily is 10, 15, 20 or 30 years of genuine painting industry experience.
That's what we're looking for.

After years on the tools, there comes a point where some painters start asking what the next 10 or 15 years of their career looks like.
Training gives you an opportunity to stay connected to the industry without having to be physically on the tools every day.
More importantly, you get to take everything you've learnt:- including the mistakes, shortcuts that don't work, tricks of the trade and lessons that aren't found in textbooks and pass that knowledge on.
Your experience doesn't have to finish when you come off the tools.
It can become the experience that helps create the next generation of painters.
