From a three-storey townhouse development with curved timber balconies to a single-level home set among hinterland gums, our recent work covers a lot of ground.

The builds in between include full-height glass above planted concrete terraces, and a sculptural cantilever floating over a sandstone street wall. Every one was priced trade by trade, so the builder could go to their client with confidence.

Let's talk about AI and preliminary estimating, because there's a lot of hype out there right now.

The good news is AI genuinely can help at the prelim stage. Some platforms scan your drawings and spit out a quick preliminary figure before you commit to a full estimate. Available 24/7, fast, and cheap to run. Sounds great, right?

Here's the catch. Not all AI estimating tools are created equal. To give you a number you can actually rely on, the AI needs to read the drawings properly, know current local pricing, and account for the grey areas, things like cladding, finish levels, and site access, that never make it clearly onto a plan. We haven't seen AI nail that yet, because it works off patterns and data, not the lived experience and common sense a real estimator brings.

That's exactly the gap we built PrelimPro to close. We wouldn't throw a set of drawings into ChatGPT and sign a fixed price off the back of it, but used within the right tool, AI can be a genuine time saver at the prelim stage.
