Career tip for aspiring partners: find out what partnership actually requires before you start chasing it.
Every firm defines partnership differently. Don’t assume that strong technical performance and tenure will naturally lead to promotion.
Ask early about the commercial, client, leadership and fee expectations for partnership in your firm.
Then you can deliberately build towards them, and identify any gaps while you still have time to address them.
Partnership isn’t a queue. It’s a business case.

Will AI mean fewer lawyers, or simply change what we value lawyers for?
