Today Kx2 had the opportunity to hold space at the CFO Symposium hosted by Richard McBride — facilitating a panel discussion on the very real topic of:

“When Tech Goes Wrong.”

And honestly… the conversation was refreshing. Real stories. Real challenges. Real lessons learned. The feedback from the room was incredibly positive.

👩‍💻 Payroll Errors Aren’t a Software Problem — They’re a Testing Problem

A recent court case for unpaid leave on termination confirmed that whatever appears on your payslips is treated as strong evidence of what an employee is owed. If those balances are wrong — and you're blaming it on the transfer to a new software system — the court won’t accept that as a defence. You need clear, traceable documentation to show what actually happened.

And this is where many organisations go wrong when implementing new software – they don't properly undertake User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

At Kx2, we regularly see:

✔️ Minimal or no time allocated to real‑world scenario testing

✔️ SMEs not involved due to BAU drag

✔️ Limited or no documentation/commentary

✔️ UAT importance dismissed

The takeaway is simple:

If you don’t test it, verify it, and document it — you carry the risk.

Make sure your UAT is thorough, business‑led, and tailored to your real processes — not just the generic script provided by your software vendor.

If you’re planning a payroll or HRIS change, getting the right expertise early can save a lot of pain later.
