Happy World Environment Day đŸŒđŸŒ±

Every year, we celebrate World Environment Day on June 5 - an initiative by the United Nations Environment Programme. This year’s theme, , highlights the role that individuals, businesses and governments play in shaping more sustainable outcomes.

At Sedgman, sustainability is integrated throughout our operations, and in the solutions that we deliver for clients. In our offices, we are taking practical steps to reduce our environmental footprint – including participating in Containers for Change, recycling printer cartridges, and using GreenPower to offset energy use with renewable sources.

Our Environment and Sustainability Advisory services support clients across:

📑 Environmental and Study Management

🎯 ESG and Sustainability Advisory

🔎 Decarbonisation Advisory

With deep capabilities in minerals processing, project delivery, operations, and study management, our multidisciplinary approach delivers pragmatic, cost-effective, sustainable outcomes across the project lifecycle.

These actions reflect our commitment to continuous improvement – because every action is an opportunity.

We’re pleased to share that Mark Adams, Vice President, North America West, has been elected to the Board of Engineers Canada - the national organisation that coordinates engineering regulation across Canada’s provincial bodies.

Mark’s appointment, effective from the organisation’s AGM on 23 May, reflects both his leadership within the industry and his ongoing commitment to advancing the engineering profession.

This recognition builds on his previous tenure as President of Engineers and Geoscientists BC, where he played a key role in supporting the profession at a provincial level.

At Sedgman, we value the contribution our people make not only within our business, but across the broader engineering community. Mark’s appointment is a strong example of that impact in action.

Meet Simon Easter, Manager of Engineering Solutions and a proud Sedgman team member since 2008, with a career spanning several decades, disciplines, and continents!

As a Manager of Engineering Solutions, Simon partners with our engineering leadership to integrate new regional teams and strengthen global collaboration, positioning Sedgman for continued growth.

He champions alignment across regions, contributing to a more integrated and consistent operating model that supports scale. Integrity and accountability underpin his approach, ensuring client needs are serviced efficiently and effectively, enabling informed decisions that are right for the project.

Starting as a Mechanical Design Engineer, Simon has built his career across engineering, projects and operations, with roles in Brisbane, Perth and Vancouver. These lateral moves have broadened his perspective, strengthened collaboration skills, accelerated his professional growth, and enabled him to deliver more holistic and effective engineering solutions.

Simon credits Sedgman’s culture–and the team who shape it–for his long tenure: “We support each other through challenges as well as successes, and that sense of camaraderie builds strong, lasting connections. People tend to work at Sedgman for long periods of time and our culture is a large part of that”.

He has contributed to this culture through active involvement in Sedgman’s social clubs and mentoring, taking pride in seeing those he has helped become confident, capable professionals. He also appreciates the opportunities his career at Sedgman has provided him, including the chance to experience new countries and cultures.

Rare earths are powering the energy transition. Sedgman is helping deliver them.

Rare earth elements are essential to electrification, enabling high‑performance permanent magnets for EV drivetrains and wind turbine generators, while also supporting advanced industries from electronics and digital technology to healthcare and defence.

As demand accelerates, the challenge is clear: supply chains must expand and become more geographically balanced. But policy alone doesn’t create capability - engineering does. Rare earth processing is among the most demanding flowsheet challenges in modern metallurgy, requiring multi‑stage processing, rigorous impurity control, and alignment to downstream product specifications.

At Sedgman, we bring end‑to‑end capability across the rare earth value chain - from run‑of‑mine ore through to refined oxides (and even metal products) - supported by deep expertise in beneficiation, cracking, leaching, purification and advanced separation (including solvent extraction and ion exchange).

Our work on the Donald Rare Earth & Mineral Sands Project highlights the value of early technical engagement - combining process design, ex*****on planning and operational readiness to help projects progress with confidence.

Each month, Sedgman presents a Star Award to an exceptional employee who has demonstrated our principles of integrity, accountability, innovation, delivery, and safety, and engaged collaboratively with colleagues. This month, we are delighted to have two winners, People and Capability Manager Stephanie Nugent and Director Operations Brenden Read, recognised for their outstanding collaboration, enabling successful delivery.

Stephanie and Brenden have both demonstrated strong leadership on a joint initiative which required expertise across multiple disciplines, and their efforts resulted in a strong outcome for the business. While they work in vastly different roles, this award recognises the power of collaboration in progressing towards shared goals, and the critical role of functional teams in supporting our engineering-led operations.

Stephanie works in a P&C position, specialising in global governance, which includes supporting Sedgman’s operations division. She finds the pace, complexity, diversity and impact of her role continue to excite her after seven years with the business. She considers this award “a great reminder of the power of genuine cross‑functional collaboration and the value support functions bring to the wider business”.

Brenden also believes this award recognises the importance of strong teamwork across business units. He credits the broad range of roles he has progressed through at Sedgman with giving him a strong understanding of how its people and systems come together, noting that “collaboration helps us reduce risk, improve outcomes and deliver consistent results”. He looks forward to continuing to contribute to the culture of technical capability and operational excellence that has kept him with Sedgman for over 20 years.

Congratulations to Stephanie and Brenden on your Sedgman Star Awards!
