Today marks the 34th anniversary of Mabo Day and the final day of National Reconciliation Week 2026. Today we recognise the landmark 1992 High Court decision that affirmed Native Title and overturned the myth of terra nullius. We honour the legacy of Uncle Eddie Koiki Mabo and acknowledge the people of Zenadth Kes (Torres Strait) living across Australia. We stand arm in arm with the people of Zenadth Kes, today and every day; including Murawin employees, partners, clients and community! Together, First Nations Peoples are stronger! Let's go for truth, justice, and freedom!

We have curated excerpts of short films publicly available through the National Film and Sound Archive of Australia and a couple of beautiful songs to keep you inspired throughout the day. Please be aware these films include First Nations people who have passed on.

We asked our team to spend some time on Country in the lead up to National Reconciliation Week to learn, reflect and share a little of where they’re from.

What came back was a collection of stories, memories and connections that show just how diverse and shared our relationship to Country is.

Take a look at the teams’ reflections and photos on our blog: https://murawin.com.au/2026/05/29/all-in-wherever-we-are/

Here at Murawin we're excited to recognise and celebrate National Reconciliation Week from today through to 3 June!

National Reconciliation Week happens every year during these same dates to commemorate important milestones in First Nations History. The “Successful 1967 Referendum” and the “High Court Mabo Decision” on Mabo Day respectively.

This week provides us with an opportunity for reflection and for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is “All In”, a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day. At Murawin, we’re all in on reconciliation every day of the year and encourage everyone to take a step forward and take action to make change. To help strengthen the bonds and relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider community, for a stronger nation built on the foundations of trust and respect.

So we invite everyone to get out in their communities and participate fully in National Reconciliation Week and commit to reconciliation in whatever way you can every other week of the year!

Murawin will be represented at the Australian Placemaking Summit in Sydney next week by our very own Aunty Donna Ingram and Dr Anne Maree Player Burgess. Co-presenting a session focused on Indigenous Placemaking, Aunty Donna and Dr Annie will explore Murawin’s Country-centric methodology for approaching Place Making, “Barri Marruma”. We use the methodology to ensure that Country, Community & Indigenous knowledge inform all our projects & guide intercultural collaborations and co-design in placemaking. Through practical case studies, these concepts will be explained to showcase how we can work together effectively to achieve great outcomes for all, where Indigenous voices are heard, valued and respected.

The Murawin team will be presenting on Day 1 of the event, Wednesday May 13th at 16:35-17:05pm and tickets to the whole summit can be purchased here: https://www.placemakingsummit.com.au/

This ANZAC Day, we pause to remember the strength, sacrifice, and spirit of those who have served our country and communities.

We also honour the stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander servicemen and women, whose service and courage deserve recognition.

Today, we remember together - with gratitude, honesty, and respect. Lest we forget.

Good engagement is relational, culturally grounded and accountable.

At Murawin, we approach engagement as more than a project phase. It is not a single workshop. It is not a survey at the end of a process, and it does not conclude when a report is submitted. It is the centrepiece to our work.
