Excited to celebrate Indigenous Business Month 2026? Well, QIBN and QUT are hosting an Indigenous Business Month Expo today at the QUT Gardens Point Campus!

This “Business XCHANGE” event provides an opportunity for local business, sector stakeholders, corporate, government and students to meet fellow QIBN members at the Marketplace to explore, connect and share knowledge with other businesses from across Queensland.

Our mob from Murawin, Rebecca McGuinness and Carol Vale, will be attending this event to share knowledge, skills, perspectives and build meaningful connections with other businesses and mob developed locally around Brisbane.

It truly is a privilege for us to stand alongside our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander sisters and brothers in this space and would love to see as many of you as possible at this event tomorrow. To create meaningful connections and spark new conversations and opportunities for mob😊

UNE’s Oorala Centre have congratulated Murawin Co-Founder Carol Vale, a proud Dunghutti woman, UNE alumna and accomplished leader in Aboriginal affairs, on joining the University of New England Council as its inaugural Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designated member. Her decades of experience, cultural leadership and dedication to community make her an inspiring appointment. We commend her efforts and wish her every success in this important role!"

Oorala would like congratulate and welcome Ms Carol Vale to the University of New England Council.

Ms Carol Vale, a Dunghutti woman and UNE alumna, joins the Council as the inaugural Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander designated member for an initial one-year term.

Ms Vale has approximately 30 years of experience in Aboriginal affairs, public policy and community development, including senior roles across the NSW and Queensland governments. In 2013 she founded Murawin Pty Ltd, a national Indigenous consultancy focused on social impact, research, place strategy and reconciliation action planning. She was named Indigenous Businesswoman of the Year in 2024.

Her connection to UNE runs deep. Ms Vale is a descendant of Frank Archibald, the highly regarded Armidale community member after whom UNE's Frank Archibald Memorial Lecture series is named. She also delivered the 2023 lecture. On Council, she will work with local Elders and the broader Aboriginal community to implement UNE's new Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Consultation Framework, supporting stronger cultural leadership across the University.

The NSW-based members of the Murawin team attended the unveiling of a commemorative bench at Cadi Jam Ora in the Royal Botanic Garden, Sydney, yesterday to celebrate 20 years of the NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce. 🌿✨🤝🏽

It was a lovely morning with a beautiful Welcome and Smoking Ceremony celebrating Deb Barwick and the achievements of the whole NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce team and was great to be a part of it!

This week Murawin Co-founder Carol Vale joined an inspiring lineup of entrepreneurs, investors, and changemakers at the WOW Women of the World Festival Cairns 2026 as part of the Building Business Together session.

Carol shared reflections from her journey as a First Nations business leader, along with insights on growing purpose-led enterprises, creating meaningful impact, and strengthening opportunities through collaboration and community-led approaches.

Thank you to the WOW Australia team, fellow panellists, and everyone who joined the conversation and shared their experiences, ideas, and aspirations for business and community development.

It’s almost that time again…

We're inching closer to Indigenous Business Month (1-31 October) which celebrates the innovation, excellence, economic independence and self-determination of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses.

This year's theme, Local & Connected, recognises that thriving Indigenous businesses are grounded in community, relationships and connection to place. It highlights the importance of local knowledge, trusted partnerships and economic prosperity that flows back to communities.

This year’s theme aligns closely with Murawin's Barri Marruma (Place-making) business model. The Country-centric methodology ensures that Country, Community, and First Nations knowledge always guide our work. Barri Marruma reflects our belief that lasting impact is created when organisations are genuinely connected to people, place and Country.

Murawin Founder Carol Vale is currently attending Supply Nation Connect 2026 in Boorloo, Perth (Noongar Country), alongside Indigenous business leaders, innovators and changemakers from across the country.

Following the Knowledge Forum yesterday, the event continues to showcase the power of connection and collaboration in advancing the Indigenous business sector. Meet Leetona Pitt , a proud descendant of the Dunghutti and Gumbaynggirr peoples, living and working on Anaiwan Country. Whether it's singing, cathartic writing, or painting, she loves to help young people process and heal in meaningful ways.
Tona is a Facilitator for Murawin’s Young Tiddas on Country Program, which provides support to young Aboriginal girls in Armidale, Uralla and Guyra as they navigate education, wellbeing, culture, and community.

Tona approaches Young Tidda’s with intention and nurtures each girl’s sense of vision, purpose, and self-belief. Her work demonstrates her deep commitment to others and her passion for those ‘magical moments’ of discovery.

Tona’s approach to the development of education and wellbeing programming is an asset to our team and Murawin is grateful to have Tona’s passion, wisdom, and dedication to the Murawin vision 💛🖤❤️

When asked about her greatest professional achievement, Tona's answer was simple… “being a facilitator for our Young Tidda's”.
