- Indigenous women are ten times more likely to be targeted by police.

- They are more than twice as likely to suffer from chronic disease.

- Half of all Indigenous women who died in custody did not receive appropriate care.

Today is the anniversary of the declaration of Indigenous human rights. Given that last week yet another Indigenous woman died in police custody, the question has to be, 'what constitutes a breach of duty of care?

In just one year, 600 children aged 10 to 13 were incarcerated in youth detention centres across Australia. Two-thirds of them were Indigenous. This week’s decision by the Council of Attorneys-General to defer making a decision on raising the criminal age of responsibility means we will continue locking up children and a disproportionate number of Indigenous children. Without going into criminogenic features around socio-economic disadvantage and the impact of colonisation and dispossession, and not to mention the structural biases within the justice system, are we ok as a society with a 10 year old in prison? Are the calls from Aboriginal legal services, the Indigenous Doctors Association, the Australian Medical Association, and more than 150,000 people who signed the petition, not relevant? Now is not the time to sit back. We need to increase pressure and change this story.

Children belong in classrooms and playgrounds, not prison cells. Join the call to .

An absolutely amazing cartoon series that celebrates Traditional Indigenous languages, produced by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). It follows the adventures of Little J and Big Cuz who are Indigenous Australian kids living with their Nanna and Old Dog, the dog.

The cartoon is spoken in the Indigenous languages of Gija, Noongar, Torres Strait Creole, Palawa Kani, Warlpiri and Djambarrpuyngu.

The School Sleepover is exciting...and challenging. Little Js scared of the dark and Big Cuz still sleeps with her teddy. Can they get through the night? Spoken in the Indigenous language of Torres Strait Creole.

This deeply troubling story illustrates why justice has to be included in the Closing the Gap conversation. The social determinants that land Indigenous women in detention at 21 times the rate of non-Indigenous women can’t be viewed in isolation, otherwise, we will continue to fail First Nation Peoples.
