Why is compliance and policy implementation important⁉️

Do you feel your business is:
🔹️Chaotic
🔹️Unstreamlined
🔹️Do you have a high turn over in staff
🔹️Poor quality of work
🔹️Employees job dissatisfaction
🔹️Poor leadership in your team
🔹️Low moral
🔹️Decresed productivity

Business compliance is the process of making sure your business and employees follow the laws, regulations, standards, and ethical practices that apply to your business and
Policies set some parameters for decision-making but leave room for flexibility. They show the “why” behind an action. Procedures, on the other hand, explain the “how.” They provide step-by-step instructions for specific routine tasks.
They may even include a checklist or process steps to follow.📄

If you think this sounds familiar 💡we can help you get your business to where it should be so you can be doing what you do best!!

When preparing a SWMS the following must be taken into account:

🚨the circumstance at the workplace that may affect the way in which the high risk construction work is carried out
🚨on a construction project, the WHS management plan prepared by the principal contractor.
⚠️identify the work that is high risk construction work
⚠️specify hazards relating to the high risk construction work and risks to health and ⚠️safety associated with those hazards
describe the measures to be implemented to control the risks
⚠️describe how the control measures are to be implemented, monitored and reviewed.

A SWMS should also include the following information:

🚨the PCBU's name, address and ABN (if they have one)
🚨details of the person(s) responsible for ensuring implementation, monitoring and compliance with the SWMS
🚨if the work is being carried out at a construction project:
⚠️the name of the principal contractor
⚠️the address where the high risk construction work will be carried out
⚠️the date the SWMS was prepared and ⚠️the date it was provided to the principal contractor
⚠️the review date (if any).

A SWMS may also include:

🚨the names of workers that have been consulted on the content of the SWMS
🚨the date the consultation occurred
🚨the signature of each worker acknowledging their participation in this consultation and the opportunity to discuss the proposed measures.

The aim of a SWMS is to:

🚨 Describe the activity or task to be undertaken
🚨Identify the resources, manpower and skills associated with the task
🚨Assess and select control measures (as appropriate)
🚨 Systematically plan the activity so it can be completed efficiently and effectively.

The SWMS must be able to be easily read by those who need to know what has been planned to manage the risks and implement the control measures and ensure the work is being carried out in accordance with the SWMS.

This includes:

🚨 the supervisor of the high risk construction work
🚨 the worker carrying out the high risk construction work
🚨 the principal contractor (if it is a construction project) or the person who has management and control over the high risk construction work.

Stay tuned for tomorrow’s post…………….Preparation of SWMS!

This week we focus on SWMS, stay turned as each day we dive deeper into SWMS

🤔 Do you know the primary purpose of a SWMS (Safer Work Method Statement)?

The primary purpose of a SWMS is to help supervisors, workers and any other persons at the workplace to understand the requirements that have been established to carry out the high-risk construction work in a safe and healthy manner.

The SWMS:

📋 sets out the work activities in logical sequences
⚠️ identifies hazards
🎮 describes control measures.

Both simple and complex activities can be broken down into a series of basic steps that will allow for full analysis of each part of the activity for hazards and potential incidents.

The description of the process should not be so broad that it leaves out activities with the potential to cause incidents and prevents proper identification of the hazards nor is it necessary to go into fine detail of the tasks.

🚨🚨Take safety at work seriously, so you have an effective and comprehensive WHS Management Plan. Under the WHS Act, you have the primary responsibly to ensure a safe work environment for both your own workers and any other person on the site.🚨🚨

The plan must outline:

👷‍♀️Names, positions and health and safety responsibilities of anyone in the workplace who has health and safety responsibilities in connection with the project.

📋 Arrangements between any person conducting a business or undertaking at the workplace for consultation, cooperation and coordination of activities in relation to compliance with their duties

🚨 Arrangements for managing any work health and safety incidents that occur
Any site-specific health and safety rules

📄 Arrangements for ensuring all people at the workplace are informed of the health and safety rules, for example pre-start meetings, site inductions and toolbox talks

🚧 Arrangements for collection and any assessment, monitoring and review of safe work method statements at the workplace.

Let us ensure you meet your obligations by providing your business with a practical WHS Management Plan, whether your business is large or small. 📞 call us now!

Things to consider when conducting a workplace inspection 🏗

• Listen to the concerns of workers and their representatives.👂

• Review and analyse workplace hazards and incident reporting data.👷‍♂️👷‍♀️

• Identify existing and potential hazards and determine their underlying cause.🚧

• Review how effective hazard controls that were previously implemented were.📄

• Identify areas which need special attention due to the nature of work carried out.🏚

• Identify areas which need attention where data shows signs of stress, wear, impact, vibration, heat, corrosion, chemical reaction or misuse.🛠

• The entire workplace area should be included in the inspection. This includes parking lots, building access, rest areas, storage and amenities.🏢

Not sure how to go about it? Reach out to us and we will guide you to a safe workplace!
