Apparently Oct 3 is mead day in the USA. Sounds like a perfectly good excuse to go out and get a mead.

Did you know that it is easy to tell if an Australian mead is from an independent manufacturer? As far as we are aware at ANMC all of our Australian meads are independently owned so supporting is as easy as checking to see if made in Australia. Looking at how judges score them as well it is very hard to impossible to find something badly made.

So go to your closest meadery or enquire at your local bottle shop.

Also entries are open for the 2026 competition check link in bio. All but one new category in commercial are ready for entries. The new one coming will prepare you a good list of alternative options if you are looking at dry January or something even lower abv then this wonderful session from Working Title Brew Co.

Hello everyone,
It is that time of year again. The time to think about what meads you might want to enter to the Australian National Mead Competition. We will be back again this year on November 28th with both Commercial and Home mead maker categories.

Entries will be opening on the 25th of September.

Anyone interested in volunteering to assist with the competition feel free to reach out. Help is always welcome and appreciated.

Mead cultural swap.

We had the pleasure today to journey out to Once upon a time【蜂蜜酒専門欧風酒場】 to introduce them to some more Australian meads. Featuring the likes of
Valknut Meadery and there 2025 ANMC overall champion mead Smoky Oak.
Three Horn our 2024 and 2025 Champion meadery with thier uniquely Australian mead Sunrise
Working Title Brew Co. with many a session mead as they dominate the session mead award category and cans are lighter for baggage
Cats Whiskers Meadery as a bit of nepotism

They already stock multi medal wining meadery Maxwell Wines which is great to see Australian meads out there in the world

In return we were introduced to many Japanese meaderies

Also there own mead made with smoked honey which is the first comercial mead I have had that way and hope not the last.

It was an amazing experience not just the mead and food, but most importantely the people at Once upon a time if you ever find yourself in Japan you should put this place on a must visit. Thier commitment to mead is something we should all take inspiration from.

Hope to see them again in Japan or Australia.

The Champion Session meads was once again taken out by .co this time with the Strawberry and Pomegranete. The other meads they entered all picked up silver. They often have a mead on tap instead of ciders or seltzers like you see at most breweries they went with a local produce of honey starting with the honey from as local as they could get on premise from . Also throwing out the general idea of mead it will often be one of the lower ABV drinks you will find on tap. Perfect for QLD summer if you find yourself in newstead be sure to check them out.

Champion Mead producer is decided by average score across all entries with those meaderies who have entered 3 or more meads. has definitiley shown there consistency taking it out both years of the competition with a large variety of entries and two champion categories. There with 4 qualifying meaderies being within one point this year showing that the quality all round is great.

Finally getting on top of things from the end of year mayhem. Feedback to entrants being sent on tomorrow and most trophies for champions in post on Monday. Except this one which was hand delivered tiday to for their exceptuonal Smoky Oak which was took out the best of show from the champions of each style. This is the second year in a row for them to take home the champion barrel, bochet or fortified champion with Smoky Oak.

The image is of the poured out samples for the judges' best of show round. Which are labelled by a new letter based system. For those who are counting, there are indeed 7 meads there Experimental had a tie for first between Three Horn and Three Horn, so both were included, and the highest ranked was chosen as champion for style.
