Welcome to The Barefoot Nurse—where nurses support nurses.
Some days, this job is rewarding. Other days, it’s a full-contact sport where you question every life choice that led you here. But one thing’s certain: today will end, the shift will finish, and the chaos will (mostly) settle. And tomorrow? Well, that’s a problem for future you.
What gets us through isn’t just skill or resilience—it’s each other. The nurse to your left, the nurse to your right. Look after them, and let them look after you. If we all do that, our profession gets stronger, our workplaces become (slightly) less unhinged, and—believe it or not—the world becomes a better place.
So take a moment today. Find the humor in the madness. Share a laugh, a snack, a knowing look, or a deeply sarcastic remark. Because at the end of the day, we’re all in this together.
NB: A special note for that one follower: Yes, some posts have seemingly nothing to do with nursing. Some exist purely to make you smile, cringe, or serve as a much-needed distraction. Others acknowledge that nurses are, in fact, real people with actual hobbies, skills, and knowledge beyond IV cannulas and charting. The take-home message? Every post here relates to nurses as people—because we are so much more than just the sum of our shifts.
