Instead of the traditional boisterous street partying on New Year's Eve, tens of thousands of protesters led by university students gathered overnight in Belgrade and other Serbian cities to demand political reforms and justice against a background of government corruption in major infrastructure projects.

The protests have been prompted by a tragedy in the northern Serbian city of Novi Sad on 1 November 2024 when a canopy at Novi Sad's central train station collapsed resulting in 15 deaths.

This tragedy has prompted significant and growing widespread protests, led by students.

This video reviews the Solomon Islandsโ€™ performance in addressing corruption in the periods 2012-2023, 2018-2023 and 2022-2023. The Solomon Islands CPI score increased slightly in 2016-2023. The countryโ€™s Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) score moved in a relatively small range in the latter period. The Solomon Islands CPI score has been slightly less than average Asia/Pacific and global CPI scores during the majority of the 2016-2023 period.

This video reviews Oceaniaโ€™s performance in addressing corruption in the periods 2012-2023, 2018-2023 and 2022-2023. Oceaniaโ€™s average CPI score declined by 17.00% in 2012-2023 compared with the 0.42% decline in the average global CPI score. Oceaniaโ€™s poor result is substantially attributable to the expansion of the Oceania data set which has contributed to the reduced Oceania average CPI score from 2016 onwards.

Short, medium and long-term corruption trends for Western Europe and EU countries are presented in this video using scores published by Transparency International in their Corruption Perceptions Index 2023 (CPI2023) report. The Western Europe and EU region continues to produce the highest average country CPI scores from a regional perspective. After making some gains in 2012-2015, the average Western Europe and EU country CPI score slowly declined during 2015-2023.

Short, medium and long-term corruption trends for Timor-Leste and other Southeast Asian countries are presented in this video using scores published by Transparency International in their Corruption Perceptions Index 2023 report. Timor-Lesteโ€™s CPI score recorded a strong improvement in 2012-2023 with the countryโ€™s CPI score making particularly good progress during 2019-2023. In 2022-2023, the countryโ€™s CPI score exceeded the average global score for the first time.

Short, medium and long-term corruption trends for Eastern Europe and Central Asian countries are presented in this video using scores published by Transparency International in their Corruption Perceptions Index 2023 (CPI2023) report. Eastern Europe and Central Asia recorded the best regional result in CPI 2023 in terms of the percentage of countries recording higher scores during 2012-2023. Its average CPI country score steadily improved in 2012-2020 but has eased slightly in 2020-2023.
