Wi-Fi reviews are not the easiest of things. Unlike fault finding most networking, Wi-Fi has the added complexity of RF - and all those multitude of clients. In this blog, we'll take a measured run through on where to start in your fault finding journey.

We often get requests to review Wi-Fi networks which aren't quite meeting the specification. Many customers are finding that companies which don't truly understand Wi-Fi - or how to make it work - have deployed their network and are either incapable of making it work or don't caree.

In this series we share some of the inside information on the type of reviews we do - and what we look for.

Lets take a look at what it takes to build a clinical grade Wi-Fi network. We've worked on and upgraded lots of hospitals that just didn't have a fit for purpose Wi-Fi network.

Building Wi-Fi in hospitals is unique - there are lots of use cases, critical reliance on the technology and the building fabric is often different throughout the site.

Clinical Wi-Fi design demands attention as to which devices will operate in the environment. Patient Monitors, Electronic Medical Records are key drivers

Hospitals rely heavily on technology and have a highly mobile workforce - who often need to get help and assistance quickly.

Some of the technology is pretty awesome to look at in it's size and scale (and cost) too. Let's take a peek at what a CT Scanner looks like!

Read our blog, 'Clinical Wi-Fi and the CT Scanner,' here:

CT Scanners are a pretty impressive looking bit of clinical technology. Hospitals are working hard to make a nicer environment for patients.

Modern Wi-Fi Access Points are now capable of much higher transmit powers than the client devices. They can run at 200mW, with the average small client device running at 25mW.

One technique to limit transmit power in a Wi-Fi network is to use RF power caps on the APs.

Read our blog, 'RF Tuning: Access Point Power Caps,' here:

Correctly configuring a wireless LAN means that RF tuning needs to take place on the access points. AP power caps are one way to limit excess Wi-Fi power

What is RF Tuning? When a Wi-Fi network is installed, it should automatically set access point power and channels. It doesn't always get it right, so for that reason we strongly recommend any new install to undertake an initial RF Tuning activity.
