When revenue is under pressure, adding another product can feel like the obvious answer.

But sustainable growth starts much earlier than that.

Associations need to understand what their members and industries will continue to value, what is becoming easier for others to provide, and where the organisation can create value that remains distinctive.

Our latest article from Belinda Moore and Strategic Membership Solutions explores why relevance should come before revenue, and what that means for long-term sustainability.

A useful question to consider:

What are we building now that will still matter in the future?

A big thank you to Belinda and Strategic Membership Solutions for sharing this perspective with the association community.

What are we not talking about enough yet?

At Associations Unleashed, Max from ACFIPS and Willis from Glue Up shared two technology trends they believe deserve more attention.

Max sees digital capability becoming essential across the entire workforce. As roles and tasks change, digital skills can no longer sit with only a handful of people.

Willis points to something that can be overlooked once new technology is implemented: support. Buying or subscribing to software is only the beginning. Associations need providers that stay involved, respond when needed and help organisations continue getting value from the technology.

Technology matters. But capability, service and support matter just as much.

The strongest organisations invest in their people.

Answers membership gives association professionals access to a trusted community, practical learning, sector insights, events and relationships that help them grow in their roles and bring more value back to their organisations.

That investment goes further than individual development. It helps build stronger organisations and, collectively, a stronger association sector across Australia and New Zealand.

Members have questions. How easy are we making it for them to find trusted answers?

At Associations Unleashed, Tyler Maclaren from CEADE Solutions shared how SnapInsight is using AI to help associations make their knowledge more accessible.

Members can ask questions through a familiar platform, while the association provides the trusted information behind the response.

It’s a practical example of how AI could help associations improve access to knowledge without losing the credibility and expertise members expect from them.

When a member chooses not to renew, it is tempting to look at the renewal campaign.

Was the email strong enough?
Did we send enough reminders?
Was the timing right?

But the more important question may be what happened during the other 11 months of the year.

Retention is built through useful experiences, connection, trust, recognition and opportunities to contribute.

Our latest article from AFA Partner MemberBoat, written by Olena Lima, looks at where member connection can break down and how associations can strengthen the experience long before renewal approaches.

Thank you to MemberBoat and Olena for sharing such practical thinking with the broader association community.

AI may be changing how associations work, but the biggest challenge often isn’t the technology itself.

Fragmented systems, unstructured data and inefficient processes can all make AI harder to adopt effectively.

We spoke with Georgia Newton, AI Solutions Lead at Pathfindr, about what associations should be considering as AI becomes more embedded in how people search for information, work and engage with organisations.

Georgia shares practical insights on where associations can start, what successful adoption requires and why the real opportunity extends well beyond efficiency.

What happens when disagreement inside an association becomes disconnection?

Splinter groups can emerge when members feel unheard or underrepresented, and social media can quickly amplify frustration into a much larger conversation.

That doesn’t mean disagreement should be avoided. Strong associations create clear ways for members to speak up, communicate decisions transparently and keep people connected to a shared purpose.

Our latest article explores how association leaders can manage disagreement without allowing division to define their community.

Associations invest heavily in learning, but without a clear content strategy, that investment can become fragmented.

Webinars, courses, conference sessions, technical resources and professional development programs may all be valuable on their own, but the bigger opportunity is making sure they work together.

Our latest article from AFA Partner D2L explores how a learning content strategy can help associations connect member needs with organisational priorities, identify gaps and make better decisions about what to create, update or retire.

A big thank you to D2L for sharing practical insights with the association community.
