There are a few things I’ve quietly stopped doing in business.

Saying yes when I already know it’s a no.
Filling every gap in my calendar just because I can.
Trying to keep up with how other people are doing things.

None of it felt bad at the time.
But over time, it added up.

Now I pay more attention to what actually gives me energy…
and what slowly drains it.

It’s not a perfect system.
But it’s a lot more honest.

A new week is a good reminder to reflect on what’s working, what isn’t, and what we’re ready to let go of.

What if diversity isn’t the problem? What if fear is?

Fear of getting it wrong. Fear of having uncomfortable conversations. Fear of questioning the way things have always been done.

These fears can hold us back from creating the change we say we want to see.

Real change asks us to be willing to listen, reflect and challenge ourselves. Not just to understand the issue, but to take responsibility for what we do next.

Because meaningful inclusion takes more than good intentions. It takes courage, honesty and a willingness to do things differently.

This year's Indigenous Business Month theme, Local and Connected, captures something Indigenous businesses have always understood, that business and community are deeply connected.

I am honoured to be recognised as a finalist for the Indigenous Business Woman of the Year award at the NSWICC Summit 2026 Awards.

Over the years, I have been fortunate to learn from Elders, mentors, clients, community members and fellow business leaders who have generously shared their knowledge, wisdom and support. This recognition reflects those collective contributions as much as it does my own.

The work we do is about creating opportunities, building capability, strengthening relationships and helping others realise their potential. To be acknowledged for that work is both a privilege and a responsibility that I hold with great respect.
