There are many businesses that complement and work aside our industry, that are also affected.

One thing I have learnt after almost 17 years in business, is tough times do not last, tough people do.

Section 212 of the PO Act states (in part) licensees, salespeople and property managers must not represent to someone else anything that is false or misleading relating to the letting, or sale of property. Maximum penalty -540 penalty units.

Also, Australian consumer law states businesses must not engage in conduct that is misleading or deceptive, or likely to mislead or deceive.

Victoria passes landmark auction laws, forcing sellers to reveal their price.

An Australian-first law that will force real estate agents to reveal the reserve prices of homes for sale in Victoria at least seven days before an auction or fixed sale date has been given the green light, despite massive pushback from industry professionals who claim the process will kill auctions and harm both buyers and sellers.

The Consumer Legislation Amendment Bill 2026, part of the state government’s bid to stamp out endemic underquoting in the industry, passed through the Victorian Parliament yesterday, and will come into effect on October 1.

A leading national payment system, that handles 1.2 million rental payments per month, is making sweeping changes to the way Australians can pay their rent and strata payments.

DEFT, an online secure payment system that is a subsidiary of Macquarie Bank serves over 1,200 real estate agencies for rent alone, alongside widespread use across strata management firms including Jamesons Strata Management, PICA Group, Ace Body Corporate and Netstrata.
