For people who have been following me on Instagram for a while would know my philosophy when it comes to posting on Social Media.

To my new followers, welcome to my community and I do hope you learn something new about Social Media Marketing, Digital Marketing, Branding and Website Design.

I want to remind and emphasise that you do not sell on social media and this platform is for initiating connection and conversation.

Let’s focus on creating content that provides value and not to post for the sake of posting.

As business owners / entrepreneurs we have the tenacity to be working long hours and if we are not working we feel guilty. I can definitely relate to the latter.

What the last few years of running my own business has taught me is that I do not need to follow others in running a business. I started my business so that I can spend more time with my little one and have the flexibility to do projects that light me up.

I have been attending Quench Collective Fill Up Your Cup workshops and love how Grace is a generous community leader. There was a post that Grace posted about normalising taking a break from Instagram, not getting back to an email right away and ending our day early. I am saying 100% yes to this. We didn’t start our business to be burnt out but we started it to fit around our lives not the other way around.

I have finally found my feet in running my own show and enjoy my family life, the way that I had envisioned, three years ago.

Do you find that the years are going by faster each year? This year has been quite the challenge from a business perspective. Not being in control of what is to happen around the corner.

I will let you in on a secret, I am a control freak and love my to-do lists and being able to tick it off.

In the last few months, I have let go of what I can’t control and focused on what I can, which includes prioritising my health and using the time I have wisely.

Knowing that we only have three months to go for 2021, what are you going to do now to end the year on a good note and set yourself up for 2022?

For those who have followed me for sometime, you should know by now that I have love hearts for Summer Fridays . I have admired Marianna Hewitt for quite some time. Love that she is a driven, down-to-earth and friendly entrepreneur and person.

Some of the reasons why I am more in love with this brand.

1️⃣Shows empathy in their social communication.

2️⃣Showcases and celebrate beauty diversity

4️⃣Strategic with the influencer partnership.

5️⃣The founders truly understand laying the right foundations in succeeding in social media.

I love that the brand prides on continuous improvement on their product offerings. The brand recently reworked the Jet Lag mask based on customer feedback.

I have tried 3 of their products and they are definitely worth the hype!

When speaking to new potential clients, the one metric that I hear to determine Social Media Marketing success is reaching the 10K follower mark.

I am saying that’s not a bad metric but it’s not easy to get there if you only focus on organic Social Media Marketing. You have to be prepared to invest in paid social media to supplement in order to reach this goal.

Let me leave you with a statement to ponder on.

If you were to get 10k followers overnight, would your business be able to get down 0 DM in your inbox everyday, reply to ALL comments on posts, authentically engage with your community, come up with the content, schedule the post and finally do the actually work that you need to do to keep your business afloat?

If you said yes to all of the above, well kudos to you. I would ask you how you can do it all without burning out?

If you answered no to some of the items above, my question is, if you can start outsourcing some of the Social Media Marketing tasks, what tasks would you be able to do in your business?

The one thing that I hear from people when it comes to all things Social Media Marketing is that they get stuck in writing their Social Media captions.

I hear you.

My approach in writing social media captions is to write out 2 weeks worth of content at a time. I do not have a formula in character limits but rather focus on the key message. My captions are a combination of long form and to the point.

I constantly ask myself, does this make sense to someone who has no prior knowledge of the subject matter?

Before I schedule and upload my posts, I review it with fresh eyes and may edit or change the content completely.

We have been conditioned that we need to be ON Social Media and this has resulted in carelessness in our writing and therefore have to go back and correct ourselves. Personally, it’s not a good look. This is my opinion.

I know some people might argue it’s better to get it out there.

The one thing I want you to take away from this is take the time to proofread your captions.

I am definitely drawn to minimalist beauty products. This is the third brand I have come across this month.

Not only does .global have simplistic branding but you can see their branding is evident in their Instagram look and feel.

Their content is carefully and strategically crafted with an emphasis on educating their customers of the product's ingredients and this encourages social engagement interaction.

It has been quite awhile since I have come across a brand with really high engagement based on the number of followers they have. A side note, if you want to know how I know this brand has high engagement, feel free to DM and happy to let you know the secret.

If I had one day to manage this brand’s social media marketing, I would implement the following:

1️⃣Utilise pinning the top 3 comments.
2️⃣Tag .global in the photo post.
3️⃣Use up to 30 hashtags in feed posts and up to 10 hashtags in IG Reels.
4️⃣Add the branded hashtag in the bio.
5️⃣Consider removing the ‘IG Reel’ IG Story Highlights Reel. Post IG Reels in the Feed.
6️⃣Create IG Reel covers, that way it’s a part of the feed aesthetics.
7️⃣Review IG Story Highlights content to ensure that the content is still relevant and not outdated.

The brand has a good Social Media Marketing foundation. It’s all about taking that next step up. Looking forward to seeing how this brand succeeds this year and beyond.

I went through a Social Media hiatus.

I was still scrolling through my Instagram account but wasn’t in the mindset to be creating content.

The reason behind it was I was battling on/off sickness. Maybe I caught something from my boy (thank you daycare) or my body was telling me to slow down and look after myself.

I felt guilty that I couldn’t do much work and comparison crept in.

I am taking action and working with a Nutritionist to work towards optimum health, do regular exercise, go to bed early and eat wholesome foods.

I am prioritising my health so that I can be the best mother, wife, daughter, sister and business owner.

When I was a teenager and experimenting with different skincare products, you wouldn’t hear or see the word sustainability in a beauty context.

Fast forward today, we as consumers demand more from beauty products, not just delivering on their product promise but what are they doing to be responsibly sustainable. And no, saying your brand is sustainable and adding a label is not enough.

I am drawn to simplistic and minimalistic aesthetics. This is a complete change from when I used to like loud and bright design. Maybe it’s because I am getting older?

Enter Circumference.

I love their minimal aesthetic feed. I like how the brand strategically woven UGC content to give context and ultimately people want to see how people use and how to use the product.

The brand promise is not only clearly articulated on their Instagram bio but is evident throughout their content.

One key thing that I noticed is that the brand highlighted key calendar events that aligns with their brand values, for example Earth Day.

What makes me have love hearts with this brand is that the founder Jina Kim is a mother, business woman passionate about beauty and sustainability.

If I had one day to manage this brand’s social media marketing, I would implement the following:

1️⃣ Schedule UGC content. Download the UGC in advance. They are free online tools that you can use.

2️⃣ Set up Instagram Highlight categories similar to your website pages as a starting point. I like to have Instagram Highlights branded. It just gives it that cohesive look and feel.

3️⃣ Regularly review the Instagram Highlights to ensure the content is still relevant.

4️⃣ Add up to 30 hashtags for feed posts and 10 hashtags for Reels. Treat hashtags like keywords when searching in Google. Put yourself in the customer's shoes and what they would be looking for / interested in.

5️⃣ Reply to ALL comments as this will help in increasing the engagement rate.

The brand has the right foundation for their social media marketing. It’s all about taking that next step up. Looking forward to seeing how this brand succeeds this year and beyond.

I feel much better and more me these days and will continue to focus on my health so that I can be the best mother, wife, sister, friend, and daughter. If I am feeling good, I believe everything else will fall into place.
