Yesterday, Breanna and I onboarded Cohort 2 of Lights On… and I’m still carrying the emotion with me.
During the session, one of the support workers said something that genuinely brought tears to my eyes:
“Thank you so much for doing this. There is such a need in the community and I can't tell you how much it means to Tommy to have this opportunity. I’ve been telling everyone and they’re just so thankful that you’re providing such a small, inclusive, trauma-informed safe space for disabled creatives to learn.”
This is why we do it.
Because the need is real. Because the talent is real. Because the opportunity hasn’t always been.
Disabled actors are not lacking ability. They are not lacking passion. They are not lacking talent. What they’ve often lacked is access, safety, and spaces where they are truly heard.
Lights On exists to change that.
When we create inclusive, trauma-informed spaces, we don’t just “support” creatives, we unlock potential that has always been there.
Don’t discount actors because they have a disability. Listen to them. Invest in them. Believe in them.
They are ready. They just need to be heard.
And we’re so proud to be part of making that happen.
Keep your eyes out for the next couple of weeks as I will be introducing you to each and everyone of our amazing creatives.
