“Gude na Halo”

Today we celebrate International Day of Mother Tongue.

Papua New Guinea is the most linguistically diverse country in the world with a record 840 languages are spoken in PNG. Tok Pisin and Hiri Motu being the most used.

Did you know?
🔸 Madang uses 173 languages – making it the province with the highest number of languages. Some of these languages have less than 1000 speakers.

🔸The language of Rotokas in North Bougainville, is known to have only 11 letters. This makes it the smallest alphabet.
