In 1840, instead of wearing traditional royal attire, Queen Victoria married Prince Albert in a white satin gown adorned with handmade Honiton lace.

At the time, brides typically wore their finest dress-often red, blue, silver, or even black. Victoria's decision also supported the struggling British lace industry.

The wedding captured the public's attention, and the white wedding dress became the universal symbol of marriage
