A fantastic evening of collaboration, conversation and connections.

It was wonderful to welcome industry leaders, government representatives, community organisations and RDA colleagues to the launch of the RDA Brisbane Strategic Plan 2026-2030 on 31st August.

Strong partnerships are essential to achieving regional outcomes, and this event reinforced the power of working together to create opportunities for our communities.

Thank you to our outstanding guest speakers Bryson Head MP, Dominique Lamb and Mike Swart for contributing to the conversation and sharing their perspectives on the opportunities ahead for Brisbane and regional Queensland.

Tonight, we proudly launched the RDA Brisbane Strategic Plan 2026-2030.

Thank you to the many stakeholders, partners and RDA colleagues who joined us this evening to mark this important milestone. It was wonderful to see such a broad cross-section of leaders and organisations from across Queensland come together in support of a shared vision for our region's future.

The Strategic Plan sets a clear direction for the next four years, focused on leveraging Brisbane 2032, advancing sovereign capability, enabling infrastructure and connectivity, and growing thriving regional communities.

Led by RDA Brisbane Chair Kieren Dell, our Board and CEO Nicole Duguid, we sincerely thank our partners, stakeholders and supporters for their ongoing collaboration and commitment to our region's future.

RDA Brisbane Chair Kieren Dell and CEO Nicole Duguid joined regional leaders, policymakers and industry stakeholders this week at the Queensland Futures Institute (QFI) Annual Regions Summit 2026 to discuss the opportunities shaping Queensland's future.

From economic insights shared by Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) Deputy Governor Andrew Hauser to discussions on infrastructure, workforce development, investment attraction and industry diversification, the summit highlighted the critical role regional Queensland will play in driving long-term prosperity across the State.

The conversations reinforced the importance of collaboration between government, industry and communities to unlock investment, strengthen regional capability and ensure Queensland's regions continue to thrive.

It was great to catch up in person with our colleagues from three nearby RDAs:

Day 3 at the Developing Northern Australia Conference (DNAC) reinforced a powerful message: strong regions are built through investment in both infrastructure and people.

Today's conversation included the Economic and Growing Northern Talent Panel, featuring representatives from the Queensland Farmers' Federation, Northern Territory Cattlemen's Association, and RDA Greater Whitsundays.

The discussion highlighted the opportunities and challenges of attracting, developing and retaining the skilled workforce needed to drive Northern Australia's future growth.

Across the conference, a clear theme emerged — when critical infrastructure is delivered, communities thrive, investment follows and opportunities grow.

Creating liveable regions, means we need to turn plans into action and ensuring projects are delivered on the ground to build long-term economic and social prosperity.

📍 This week, RDA Brisbane Chair Kieren Dell, and CEO Nicole Duguid are attending the Developing Northern Australia Conference in Alice Springs, joining leaders from government, industry, research and community to explore the future of Northern Australia.

Day 1 of the conference reinforced a clear message: Australia's future prosperity will be built from its regions.

Queensland Minister Dale Last highlighted the critical role regional communities play in powering the national economy through resources, agriculture, manufacturing, exports and energy. His message was clear: investment in regional Australia is not just about economic growth, it is about strengthening sovereign capability, securing critical mineral supply chains, creating local jobs and ensuring communities have the infrastructure and services they need to thrive.

Federal Minister Madeleine King reinforced the importance of collaboration across government, industry, research and community to unlock Northern Australia's potential. Her address focused on building long-term partnerships, supporting infrastructure and connectivity, and ensuring development delivers lasting benefits for people, places and communities across the North.

The conference has showcased a range of innovative initiatives driving regional growth, including the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) Scheme, which helps address workforce shortages while creating shared economic opportunities for Pacific nations, Timor-Leste and regional Australia. https://www.palmscheme.gov.au/.

We also heard an excellent presentation from Michael Camerlengo, Executive Leader at Housing Australia, on the importance of housing supply to build value and grow thriving regional communities.

For RDA Brisbane, the discussions strongly aligned with our strategic pillars. The opportunities emerging across Northern Australia, from critical minerals and defence to transport, energy and workforce development, will help shape Australia's economic resilience and competitiveness for decades to come.

Last week, RDA Brisbane CEO Nicole Duguid appeared before the Senate Finance and Public Administration Committee Inquiry into Financial Support for State and Territory Infrastructure Projects, advocating for stronger investment in regional Australia and a more place-based approach to infrastructure funding.

Joining Olivia West (ACEcD), CEO of RDA Southern NSW & ACT, the discussion highlighted the critical role Regional Development Australia organisations play in connecting local priorities with state and federal infrastructure planning.

Key messages included:

✅ Regional infrastructure is nation-building infrastructure

✅ Greater support is needed for early project planning and feasibility work

✅ Regional projects require assessment frameworks that recognise long-term economic and social benefits

✅ A national regional infrastructure pipeline is needed to drive productivity, resilience and connectivity for decades to come

RDA Brisbane and the Queensland RDA network are also working closely with Infrastructure Australia to increase the number of Queensland projects represented on the national Infrastructure Pipeline List, helping ensure regional opportunities are visible and investment-ready.
