Nyanda Rangers had a wonderful day out at Ironbark with and Nyanda Junior Rangers,

The team carried out invasive w**d removal, propagation and searched for signs of Dumbiribi (Koalas).

We are happy to report we found their goona (s**t) and claw marks up several eucalyptus species. This gives us further drive to care for Country together and help rehabilitate these beautiful, but affected lands!

It’s always funny to see people get excited over discovering koala s**t! Never gets old!

Today our Nyanda junior Rangers staff and students and UQ Skills team spent time with Professor Vic Gaela from The University of Queensland learning about alternate ways to eliminate invasive wood w**ds other than using chemical spray.

Professor Vic Galea is plant pathologist and researcher at the School of Agriculture and Food Sustainability, University of Queensland.

His research focus is around fungal pathogens, biological control of invasive woody w**ds (such as Parkinsonia), and soil health.

He and his team have developed targeted bioherbicide delivery methods like Di-Bak capsules to manage invasive plants in Australia.

The jarjums and staff learnt how to use these devices and technologies in the field on an invasive leuceana infestation along Lockyer Creek

When our junior rangers aren’t goofing around they are also learning about propagation as part of their Cert II Conservation and Ecosystem Management and Cert II Rural Operations with uqskills

The jarjums are exposed to learnings that cover a range of different units of competency from Workplace Health and Safety to Ecological Restoration activities.

It’s such a positive and encouraging experience observing the young ones learning and laughing together on Country with their elders and community!

Nyanda’s male rangers, Marlon Cobbo, Uncle Derek Yow Yeh and Curtis Bonner have been working hard conducting w**d management on one of our Ipswich properties.

Their work is helping the native vegetation breathe without the weight of years of untreated invasive lantana.

Acknowledgement must be given to the foundational work done by Mick Landers, Kalvin Reeks and Dereece Gray earlier in the year that made access to this special site possible! 💪🏽

Our thoughts are with their team leader who couldn’t be with them today because of sorry business.

Corbin Sarra did very well earlier this week to protect a local lizard as Nyanda’s junior rangers removed invasive w**d species at UQ Gatton campus, as part of their ecological restoration works.

It just shows, that not matter the area, even if it is a w**d infested area, native fauna species have adapted to survive in less than optimal vegetation zones and that care should be taken when carrying out clearing.

Well done team! 🖤💛❤️ 🦎 🌱
