Recently Nyanda’s Junior Rangers and staff had the privilege of spending time with Butchulla’s K’gari Rangers and K’gari Cultural Tours

Our jarjums learnt about bio security threats affecting the island and the steps K’gari Rangers are taking to protect Country.

We walked amongst the giant and ancient trees of Pile Valley, visited the always amazing Boorangoora (Lake Mckenzie) & Eli Creek, learnt about wongari (dingo) safety, fished and hunted for eugaries on the eastern beaches near Eurong, learnt about the affects of colonialism upon mob at Central Station and heard about the everyday work responsibilities practised by Indigenous rangers involved in caring for Country.

Thank you Butchulla mob and K’gari Rangers for this amazing experience that will leave a lasting impression on our young ones for a lifetime! Yoway!

Earlier this year Nyanda’s junior rangers assisted to create access tracks though dense lantana infestations as part of site preparation on BPAC managed Country.

According to BPAC Rangers Mick Smith and Leeton Lee, this initial work was part of BPAC’s plan to help restore country though the application of future cultural burns.

With BPAC Rangers’ leadership, Nyanda’s jarjums proved themselves worthy of Country and the task that was set before them!

Thankfully we were at higher altitude than usual and in the cool season, otherwise the work would have been much tougher! 💪🏽

Nyanda Rangers had a wonderful day out at Ironbark with and Nyanda Junior Rangers,

The team carried out invasive w**d removal, propagation and searched for signs of Dumbiribi (Koalas).

We are happy to report we found their goona (s**t) and claw marks up several eucalyptus species. This gives us further drive to care for Country together and help rehabilitate these beautiful, but affected lands!
