This weekend we were called to a construction project due to the appearance of a 'black snake'. The building team's Safety Management Plan kicked in and it was tools down until a professional arrived to address the hazard.

Whilst the situation turned out to be an everyday occurrence of misidentification (the snake was a harmless Common Tree Snake Dendrelaphis punctulatus), the team did exactly the right thing. They took the safest approach, treated the snake as potentially venomous and dangerous and called for professional assistance.

Thanks to our response time, everyone was safely back to work within 30 minutes and our bemused tree snake buddy was happily relocated nearby.

Back in early December we were called to save some Carpet Python eggs from a local land clearing project. After a month in one of our incubators they all hatched, all are healthy and the little tackers are now back where they belong.

Much to his embarrassment, this bloke showed up at a local retirement village morning tea to find out he wasn’t on the invite list and was not overly welcome. To cheer him up Carl took him on a trip to some nearby bushland which he enjoyed far more than the whole morning tea thing anyway 🙂

Variety has gone out the window lately and the colour of the moment is definitely brown! The Eastern Brown (Pseudonaja textilis), often referred to as a common brown snake is a species of extremely venomous snake in the family Elapidae. They cope and even thrive in areas of human disturbance, and are particularly prevalent in Brisbane's western suburbs.

As a species, the Eastern Brown has the unfortunate distinction of causing the greatest number of snake bite deaths in Australia. A large number of these bites were a direct result of people trying to handle, move or kill the snakes and could obviously have been avoided.
