📢 Big change for food delivery riders — starts Monday 17 August
If you deliver for Uber Eats, DoorDash or similar, you're now entitled to a minimum hourly pay floor for the first time.
What's changing
• A minimum of $31.30–$32 per hour, depending on whether you're on a bike, e-bike, scooter or car
• The platform must also give you personal accident insurance while you're working
• You still cover your own vehicle third-party insurance
The catch — "engaged time"
The clock only runs from when you accept an order to when you drop it off. Sitting and waiting for the next job doesn't count.
The platform adds up your engaged hours over the pay period, compares it to what you were actually paid, and tops you up if you fell short.
What it does NOT change
You're still a contractor on your ABN. No employer, no super, no tax withheld. That means:
✅ You still lodge as a sole trader
✅ You still claim your kilometres, phone, bag, e-bike depreciation
⚠️ Your income is going up — if you're near $75,000 a year, you may now need to register for GST
Rideshare drivers: this one is delivery only. Passenger trips (Uber, DiDi, Ola) and parcel courier work are still being decided by the Fair Work Commission.
Not sure how it affects your tax? Send me a message — happy to run through it.
