Great morning at Murrumba State Secondary College representing Australian Institute of Landscape Architects (AILA)'s 'Be a Landscape Architect' program. I spoke with design and engineering students, along with plenty of other curious young people about the breadth of our profession, the influence we have on shaping places, and the opportunities emerging across our rapidly developing region. Great energy, thoughtful questions and a reminder of why advocacy for our profession matters.

What a joy to be invited to the official opening of the new play space for NARBETHONG STATE SPECIAL SCHOOL. Thank you for having us back!

Karen Neilson, Principal, spoke so beautifully - capturing the intent, the purpose and now the reality, of having a sensory playscape that has been designed specifically for students with both vision impairment and a secondary disability. It is through the perseverance and contribution of the educators at Narbethong, that they were able to articulate and imagine all of the possibilities.

I often consider us the tool for bringing together the ideas, the needs and the context of the landscape together, and with Travis Schreiber, I think this is a great example of just that! There is no way this would be as nuanced without the Narbethong Team and Travis working through all those opportunities in texture, sound and detail.

Oasis Landscaping, you have done a fabulous job here. Sorry (not sorry) for the intensity of detail in this project. An awful lot was crammed into a small, challenging area, so glad that it was managed. Honeywill Consulting, hats off for making this happen.

Queensland Department of Education and the Narbethong P&C - Thank you for getting behind this project and supporting it with the very real effort and funds. Nothing happens without the dollars and it takes a lot of sausage sizzles to aid a project like this ❤️ But more than that, it takes a leap of faith to support a space that isn't you're average play solution, so we're truly thankful for the positivity that so obviously surrounded this project today.

Thanks all!!

Looking back at one of our earlier projects — Tallahassee Boardwalk — a residential landscape designed to bring that relaxed, resort-style feel to everyday living.

Set across both podium and natural ground levels, the challenge came in creating smooth, seamless transitions in materials and space. We designed and detailed all softscape and hardscape elements, with a strong focus on tropical, resort-inspired planting that emanates lush, green, and immersive.

This is still one of those projects that reminds us how much power we have as LA's to curate spaces and impact a sites character and future success.

“Helps kids have fun!”

When you ask a bunch of lower primary aged kids what does a Landscape Architect do? and this is their response - you know you're working with some switched on kids!

We have been working with Ascot State School to develop a masterplan for their campus and the brief is for everyone to have a say. So last week we spent a day working with students of all ages and their teachers to imagine spaces where they belong, feel safe and connected. And ACTIVE of course! Now is our job to channel their great ideas and enthusiasm into a living report to support the school's ongoing evolution. This is why we love our job - designing places for people 🌿

Getting experimental over at St Augustine's new science building and learning landscape! This small space comes feature packed with tools to assist the teachers in undertaking classes within the landscape. The creative installations include:

- Cell shaped seating with chalkboard painted top for demonstrations
- Educational graphics on the balustrades depicting our evolutionary journey
- Varied plant choice that showcases species with exaggerated biological features such as crotons and hibiscus
- Real space X Y and Z axis rulers
- Varied surface treatments to assist in the demonstration of friction
- And of course good old fashioned shaded seating
