$60 to 65/hr plus super
Lead and develop a team of 4 pharmacists and support staff

Good at the hard conversations? This pharmacy will pay $60 to $70/hr for it.

An independent pharmacy in South East Melbourne wants an experienced pharmacist with a pharmacotherapy focus. The patients are addiction, pain management and mental health.

The owner doesn't dress it up. He calls it a challenging role. He's paying for someone who has done the work, stays calm when a conversation turns, and treats these patients with respect.

What you get:
- $60 to $70/hr, based on your track record
- Full time or part time, negotiable
- No late nights. Weekdays finish at 5:30pm and weekends are short mornings.
- Closed public holidays
- An established team around you. You're not carrying it alone.

What you'll do:
- Methadone, Suboxone and Subutex dosing
- Medicinal cannabis dispensing
- Webstercare DAAs and general PBS scripts

This suits you if you've dosed pharmacotherapy before and want it to be the centre of your job, not the part nobody else wants. Management or ownership experience puts you at the top of the list.

Not looking but curious? One call costs nothing. Nothing goes to the employer without your permission first.

Need a pharmacist on the floor by Christmas? You should be hiring in October.

Here's the maths most owners skip.

The pharmacist you want is usually employed. That means up to four weeks notice before they can start.

Before that comes the search. Conversations, interviews, a site visit, references. Two to three weeks if it moves well.

Then the offer and the contract. Another week.

Start this week and your new pharmacist walks in the first week of December.

Start in mid November and they arrive in January, after the rush you needed them for.

December is the worst month to be short. Scripts are up. Your team wants leave. Good locums are booked early.

The owners who get through it calmly aren't lucky. They started looking in October.

If you've got a gap coming, ring me now. Not in six weeks.

Three pharmacist roles on the Sunshine Coast. One full-time, two part-time.

We're working with a well-regarded pharmacy group that's hiring across the coast. Prescribing training is a big plus. If you've done it, or you're working towards it, they want to hear from you.

A lot of pharmacists tell me the Sunshine Coast is where they'd move if the right role came up. This is a real one, with a group that looks after its people.

Open to relocating? Already local and want a change? Message me or email [email protected]. Happy to have a confidential chat first.

"Why are you leaving?"

Every owner asks it. Most pharmacists answer it badly.

Some go vague. "Just time for a change." The owner learns nothing and fills the gap with the worst guess.

Some go too far. Ten minutes on the owner who's never on the floor and the roster that changes every week. It might all be true. The owner still hears one thing. This person will talk about me like that one day.

The best answer is short and honest. Say what's missing. Then say what you want instead.

"I've been solo on most shifts for two years. I want a second pharmacist on weekdays."

That's it. No blame. No backstory. The owner knows what matters to you and whether they can offer it.

It works for you too. If they say "we're solo most days as well," you've just avoided moving into the same problem.

Work out your answer before the interview. Not in the chair.

Most owners know a locum costs more. Few have done the maths on how much.

Here's a simple example. A locum at $80 an hour for a 38-hour week is $3,040.

A permanent pharmacist at $55 an hour for the same week is $2,090.

That's $950 more every week the role sits open. Over twelve weeks it's $11,400.

And that's before you pay for travel and accommodation. It's also before the weeks when no locum is free and you're covering the shifts yourself.

"We'll locum it for now" feels like the safe choice. But the longer it runs, the more it costs you.

If you've had a role open longer than you planned, let's talk about what it's costing you and how fast we can fill it.

Coming back after time off is its own kind of hard.

Most pharmacists who've had a break slide straight back into the same hours they left. Same days, same roster, same setup that didn't fit before either.

You don't have to take the first role that'll have you back. The right pharmacy will build the hours around what actually works for you now, not what worked before.

If you're heading back and want to do it differently this time, let's talk.

Ask a locum if they want to go permanent and you'll usually get a pause before the answer.

Some genuinely love the flexibility. Choose their shifts, work their hours, keep control of their calendar.

But a lot of locums didn't set out to stay locum forever. They just never found a permanent role worth giving that flexibility up for.

The pay drop puts people off. So does losing control of the roster. So does picturing themselves back in a fixed five day week after years of picking and choosing.

The right permanent role doesn't ask you to give up what you liked about locuming. It's built around what you actually want. Fewer days if that's what suits you. More say in your roster. An owner who already knows how you work because they've used you as a locum before.

If going permanent has crossed your mind more than once, it's worth a real conversation about what that would actually look like.

You know more about who's looking than we do.

The pharmacist who mentioned they're over their current roster. The one who's been quietly checking what else is out there. The one who'd jump at the right opportunity but hasn't gone looking yet.

Point them our way.

We only work with pharmacies that actually look after their staff. No spam, no pressure on them, just a real conversation if they want one.
