Our second meet up of The China Collective was held on Tuesday 27th August. Below is a feature-length video of the event. It does run for 34 minutes, although we believe it’s well worth watching if you were unable to attend in person. Erik Anderson (12 mins) walks through the specifics of Austrade’s Export Market Development Grants scheme (EMDG), Claire Pink (4 mins) provides an overview of what’s trending in China; Online Short Form Video. Michael Harding 12 mins (streams in live from a digital TV and Video production house in Guangzhou to talk about Brand Building in China and provides insights into Douyin (TikTok) and Kuaishou video APP platforms. Lastly, Craig Shim (5 mins) provides his “If there is one thing, I could tell you about China…” where he talks about “Understanding the Chinese business mindset”.

Is your business making the most of the EMDG (Export Market Development Grant)?

Many SME's miss out on this initiative by Austrade to boost export activity. The main reason is the lack of knowledge around what services can be claimed back- If your business is about to start exporting or you don't think you are getting maximum rebates and are looking to extend your budget further.

Trade Marks for example are such an important part of your 'get export ready' strategy - you can get up top 50% of these expenses back. (HIGHLY recommended before you enter the China market place)

This week for the first time in history, China has officially become Australia’s largest export beef market by volume.

Had the pleasure of joining the Indodocs team and Charles Turner-Morris at their Digital Supply Chains event, presented in conjunction with Steve Baxter and the River Labs team.
DISRUPTION
This was the theme running through the room, with many questions asked about HOW the supply chain will be disrupted by new tech such as block chain and smart contracts. Import/Export will be streamlined with less clunky paperwork and wasted time.
Charles Turner-Morris explained how smart contracts will revolutionise payments and supply chain processes, which leads to the question: 'Will industries like freight forwarders, shipping agents, banks and similar service based industries be cut out by smart contracts in the future?' We shall see....go and DISRUPT!!

Leanne Kemp is Queensland's 3rd Chief Entrepreneur. Following on from Steve Baxter she has recently settled into her new role to guide Queenslanders through the tricky water's of entrepreneurship.
At a recent event we heard about how her early adoption of tech led her to solving industry problems through the development of block chain. Also how China is leading the field with massive R&D investment and has become the world's Chief Entrepreneur.
There are also massive implications for blockchain and smart contracts that will revolutionise our trading capacity with China.
Beefledger is another great example of credentialing products headed to the China market where counterfeiting is rife.
