When did being good at your job become something you had to apologise for?

You get asked what you’re good at and suddenly you’re downplaying your experience, making a joke or giving everyone else the credit.

Cute. Except you’re sitting in an interview trying to convince someone to hire you.

Being good at your job gets you shortlisted. Being able to prove it gets you hired.

Your competition isn’t necessarily more qualified. They might just be better at explaining why they’re worth hiring.

That’s the expensive part of playing modest.

Can we officially retire the person who gets invited to the meeting and then spends the entire thing typing what everyone else said?

Because this is actually useful.

Copilot Facilitator can take live notes during a Teams meeting, keep an eye on the agenda and time, then pull out the tasks at the end.

Which means you can do something quite revolutionary in a meeting: Actually participate in it. No frantic typing. No missing half the conversation. No ending the call with three pages of notes and absolutely no idea what you agreed to do.

Also, if you’re always the one taking the notes because “you’re so good at it”… I have questions. 😂

On an average $731,000 mortgage that's about $460 a month more across the four hikes.
Higher rates don't stay at home. They slow hiring and make pay rises cautious.

69 applicants for the typical job, up from 58 a year ago. Internal moves down at 57% of employers. Promotions flat. Workday's new report is a reality check, but it's also useful. If you've been applying more and hearing less, or carrying extra work and waiting to be noticed, this is your sign to change the approach rather than try harder at the old one. My brain at 9am: 47 tabs open and one of them is playing music. 🌶️

If that's you too, hi. Same.

Most workplaces aren't built for neuro spicy brains, and waiting for them to catch up could take years. That's years of 3pm crashes, forgotten follow ups and feeling behind when you're actually working twice as hard.

So I stopped waiting and started closing tabs. These are the systems I actually use, including my phone set up and the apps that don't nag me.

You know what you're worth. You've said it out loud in the car. Possibly to the dog. Then a recruiter opens your resume and finds a list of tasks you did in 2019.

Tasks tell them you turned up. Results tell them what to pay you. That gap between what you know and what the page says is the bit costing you interviews. RUDE. Fixable though.
