It's been powerful to see all the small businesses share their collective frustrations after the budget announcement, and I feel for them. As the great Kerry Packer once said, set the rules and don't change them.
After our foundational years of building businesses in Australia, we’re expanding The Catalysis Group into the USA 🇦🇺➡️🇺🇸
To be clear — this move was already in motion well before the recent budget announcement.
The reality is, I’ve spent a long time looking at where the biggest opportunities for innovation, investment, and growth exist globally, and the US market presents enormous potential for what we’re building.
I’ve been fortunate. After the budget this is more true.
I came through at a time where if you worked hard, took risks, sacrificed weekends, backed yourself, and built something valuable — there was still a path forward.
That path helped me:
✅ Start and grow multiple businesses
✅ Create jobs and opportunities
✅ Buy a home
✅ Build a future for my family
But honestly… I look at the next generation of Australians and I worry.
Small businesses are under pressure from every direction:
• Rising costs
• Complex compliance
• Surcharge rule changes
• Lob sided labur laws
• Business owners carrying more pressure than ever before and Australia has incredible talent, incredible people, and incredible potential.
And I genuinely believe there is a massive opportunity for Australia to become one of the best places in the world again for entrepreneurs, investors, innovators, and small business owners to build and scale businesses.
I’d love to see more policies and incentives that encourage:
➡️ Investment into Australian businesses
➡️ Reduce taxes and compliance burden for small business
➡️ Entrepreneurship and risk-taking
➡️ Global companies choosing Australia as a place to expand not just abuse our weak tax scheme (think expense deductions for licensing IP)
➡️ Australian founders wanting to stay, build, and reinvest locally
This isn’t about turning my back on Australia. Australia made me who I am and I’ll always be proud of that. This is simply the next chapter of growth for our business and family.
Same mission. Bigger stage.
Still backing people willing to have a crack.
America… let’s build something extraordinary.
