There’s a leadership problem in our workplaces—and it’s costing more than most businesses realise.
After recently reviewing multiple organisations and speaking with people on the ground, one pattern is clear:
People aren’t leaving jobs.
They’re leaving leadership.
We’re seeing high levels of disengagement, burnout, and toxic workplace environments—not because people don’t want to work, but because they’re not being led well.
Here’s the gap…
Many managers are promoted based on performance, not leadership capability.
And without the right development, leadership defaults to:
• Control instead of coaching
• Pressure instead of empowerment
• Authority instead of influence
Strong leadership isn’t about position—it’s about impact.
A high-performing leader:
• Leads themselves first
(accountability, emotional
intelligence, consistency).
• Builds trust and psychological
safety within their team.
• Creates clarity, direction, and
purpose
This is where culture is either built—or broken.
If organisations want better retention, performance, and outcomes, the focus must shift from managing people… to developing leaders.
The question is no longer:
“Why are staff leaving?”
It’s: “What kind of leadership are they walking away from?”
