BOATING ON LAKE ALEXANDRINA in South Australia offers vast, open-water exploration, birdwatching, and fishing.

The lake is a popular destination for everything from kayaking
to houseboating, but it is notorious for shallow sandbars and sudden, dangerous wind changes.

Goolwa:
The primary gateway to the lake, located on the Fleurieu Peninsula. It features a historic wharf precinct, houseboats,
and various public Boat Ramps - Alexandrina Council.

Milang:
Located on the northern shores, this is an excellent spot for smaller boats, sailing, and accessing the Boating Facilities -
Visit Alexandrina.

Clayton Bay:
A sheltered area ideal for personal watercraft, water skiing,
and canoeing.

Check the Weather:
The lake is vast and shallow.
Open water can get incredibly rough very quickly.
Mariners on Facebook advise waiting for light, stable winds (often north-easterly or north-westerly) and carrying enough food/supplies to wait out bad weather.

Chart Plotters & Charts:
Channel markers are very sparse in the middle of the lake.
Using Murray River Pilot charts and reliable GPS/chart plotters
is heavily recommended.

Open Water Equipment:
Ensure you carry proper open-water safety gear, including EPIRBs, VHF radios, and flares, especially when traversing
the main body of the lake.

BOATING IN COORONG NATIONAL PARK offers an incredible
way to explore the wetlands where the river meets the sea.

Whether you are cruising, sailing, or kayaking, you will experience shifting sand dunes, abundant birdlife, and rich Aboriginal and European history.

Key Boating Zones:
The Coorong is split into two distinct bodies of water, each requiring different watercraft.

The Northern Lagoon (Goolwa Barrage to Parnka Point): Accessible by most boats drawing less than 1 m.
It's ideal for a cruise or a day of fishing.

The Southern Lagoon (Parnka Point to Salt Creek):
Highly shallow and sometimes dry in summer.
This area is best explored via kayak, canoe, or small dinghy
with a draught under 0.5 m.

Goolwa Wharf:
The most common starting point for venturing towards the Murray Mouth and Northern Lagoon.

Long Point:
Located about 30 minutes from the Princes Highway.
It offers excellent facilities, including a jetty, picnic tables,
toilets, and a canoe launch ramp.

Parnka Point:
Another easily accessible spot perfect for launching smaller
craft and kayaks into the deeper sections.

Activities & Wildlife Fishing:
The area is renowned for excellent fishing, with catches including Mulloway, Coorong Mullet, and Salmon.

Wildlife Viewing:
Keep an eye out for New Zealand fur seals near the Murray Mouth and thousands of migratory birds.

COFFIN BAY located on the lower Eyre Peninsula in
South Australia, is a boater's and angler's paradise known
for glassy bays, pristine islands, and world-class fishing.

Navigating these protected, shallow waterways requires
attention to sand shoals, tide times, and oyster leases.

Tides and Channels:
The inlet is very shallow with numerous sand shoals.
The boating channel from Farm Beach to the main township
is well-marked with beacons, but strong tidal flows require careful attention.

Oyster Leases:
The bay is a working hub for famous Coffin Bay oysters.
You must navigate around the oyster lease grids,
which are marked, and respect the speed limits inside them.

Anchorages:
Safe anchorage points and channel details can be reviewed
in the SA Anchorage Guide.

Main Boat Ramp:
Located centrally in Coffin Bay, providing solid access to the water.

Jetty Access:
The Coffin Bay Yacht Club Jetty is open to the public for short-term use, and the club offers meals on specific days of the week.

What to Catch:
The reliable waters yield King George whiting, snapper, garfish, and squid. Check out the Visit Coffin Bay Fishing Guide for a complete breakdown of target species and tips.

Sanctuary Zones:
Coffin Bay is part of the Thorny Passage Marine Park,
meaning fishing is strictly prohibited in designated sanctuary zones (such as areas of Yangie Bay, Eely Point, and Gunyah Beach).

BOATING ON THE MURRAY RIVER in South Australia
ranges from leisurely houseboat escapes to action-packed waterskiing.

Popular destinations include the Riverland (Renmark) and the Murray Bridge region.

Always consult the official Marine Safety SA before getting
on the water to ensure local conditions and boat ramps are
fully operational.

Skiing:
For adrenaline seekers, the river offers fantastic conditions
for wakeboarding, waterskiing, and tubing.

Speed Limits:
Keep to 4 knots within 50m of swimmers, 30m of other vessels, and 100m of ferry crossings.

Towing Rules:
Always maintain a 100m buffer directly behind people being towed by another boat.

Water Levels:
Check current water flow, submerged debris, and hazard warnings regularly using the River Murray – Marine Safety
Advice portal.

Launch Points:
Major towns have excellent infrastructure, but check local
council updates (such as the Murray Bridge Council site)
to confirm if specific public boat ramps are open.
