The reality is, they’d just like to stay longer. The beautiful Broke Fordwich wine region is like a secret …one you can’t wait to share. And that, we believe is part of its true charm. Come and see why. The scenic Broke For

dwich stretch of the Wollombi Brook has quietly developed into a quality wine tourism region where visitors can enjoy premium wines, fresh olive oils and innovative farm gate products, wonderful restaurants and cafes, luxury accommodation and most importantly, a tranquil rural experience which is far removed from the hustle and bustle. Situated in a wide section of the valley, the surrounding hills frame some of the best scenery in the area with the striking Brokenback Mountain Range and iconic Yellow Rock providing an impressive backdrop. The natural beauty of the region coupled with the great food, relaxed accommodation, skill and dedication of the locals has seen many couples choose Broke as the ideal place for their wedding. Broke Fordwich is an easy fifteen minutes drive from the hectic centre of Pokolbin and about two hours drive from Sydney via the historic township of Wollombi, just over an hour from Newcastle. The Hunter Valley famously hosts international performers at major outdoor concerts each spring, summer and autumn - and Broke Fordwich is the ideal base with a shuttle bus service available for concertgoers.

The Halliday Wine Companion is one of Australia’s best-known and most influential guides to Australian wine. The 2027 awards have just been celebrated in Melbourne, and three Broke Fordwich Wineries were awarded five red stars in recognition of continued and consistent wine quality. Congratulations to Margan Wines & Restaurant, Winmark - Vineyard & Accommodation and Krinklewood Biodynamic Vineyard and the other Broke Fordwich wineries featured in this wine guide.

Margan Wines & Restaurant also picked up the coveted award for Best Other Reds & Blends of the Year with their Single Vineyard Saxonvale Mourvèdre 2024. They also pulled in top scores across the board for their 2024 Semillons, with the Ceres Hill Semillon 2024 standing out as a clear highlight. This is great recognition for Margan which celebrates 30 years this year.

Krinklewood Biodynamic Vineyard were finalists for the Dark Horse Winery of the Year with judges noting “this is a winery all wine lovers should get to know”. Their 2024 Broke Fordwich Shiraz was awarded 96 points and their 2024 Wild Chardonnay scored 95.

Winmark - Vineyard & Accommodation continue to solidify their reputation as premium Broke Fordwich Chardonnay specialists, securing 96 points for the Single Vineyard Reserve 2023 and 95 points for Biosis Blanc de Blancs 2023 and Icon 7 2, 2024. Winmark were previous finalists at these awards for Best New Winery.

It is fantastic for our local winemakers and wine growers to be recognised on such an important national stage and a huge win for the entire Broke Fordwich community.

It is a brilliant time to be drinking Broke Fordwich wine. If you are planning a trip to the Hunter Valley, make sure you book a tasting to experience these exact vintages right where they are grown.

If you can’t make it to Broke in person this Father’s Day, sending a piece of the region to him is the next best thing.

A couple of bottles straight from our local growers, like a single-vineyard Chardonnay or a red put aside for a quiet evening, is a simple, thoughtful way to share a bit of Broke Fordwich.

Or, if he’d prefer to pick his own time to visit, a voucher for a cellar door tasting or a weekend stay gives him something peaceful to look forward to down the track.

You can order directly from our local wineries and stay providers through the link in our bio.

Meet Ben and Jace, the duo behind Monkey Place Catering. Their story began in a resort pastry kitchen back in 2007, eventually leading them to the Hunter Valley in 2010 to host private chef dinners.

For the last 15 years, they have been an absolute staple of the region's event scene, catering countless celebrations and building a wonderful, long-standing partnership with Karyn and the team at Adams Peak Country Estate.

After a decade and a half of incredible weddings and events, they are just as passionate about bringing your vision to life today as they were on day one.
