Friendly locals, stunning scenery, fine Hunter wines, olives and olive oils, farm produce, seriously good eateries and great places to stay … what more could our visitors want? The reality is, they’d just like to stay longer. The beautiful Broke Fordwich wine region is like a secret …one you can’t wait to share. And that, we believe is part of its true charm. Come and see why. The scenic Broke For

dwich stretch of the Wollombi Brook has quietly developed into a quality wine tourism region where visitors can enjoy premium wines, fresh olive oils and innovative farm gate products, wonderful restaurants and cafes, luxury accommodation and most importantly, a tranquil rural experience which is far removed from the hustle and bustle. Situated in a wide section of the valley, the surrounding hills frame some of the best scenery in the area with the striking Brokenback Mountain Range and iconic Yellow Rock providing an impressive backdrop. The natural beauty of the region coupled with the great food, relaxed accommodation, skill and dedication of the locals has seen many couples choose Broke as the ideal place for their wedding. Broke Fordwich is an easy fifteen minutes drive from the hectic centre of Pokolbin and about two hours drive from Sydney via the historic township of Wollombi, just over an hour from Newcastle. The Hunter Valley famously hosts international performers at major outdoor concerts each spring, summer and autumn - and Broke Fordwich is the ideal base with a shuttle bus service available for concertgoers.

Winter does something special out here. 🔥

Mist on the Wollombi Brook in the morning. Reds by the fire in the evening. Quiet roads in between, and cellar doors where you can take your time because nobody is rushing you out.

This is the season the locals keep to themselves. Book a night, bring a coat, slow right down.

Tell us in the comments: fireplace and a Shiraz, or morning mist and a long breakfast?

So you’ve heard we won gold. 🏆

Here’s what to do about it.

If the awards put Broke Fordwich on your radar, this is your first weekend, sorted.

Saturday: arrive late morning, lunch among the vines, an afternoon of cellar doors where the person pouring usually grew the wine. Check in somewhere with a fireplace. Dinner is local, slow and worth it.

Sunday: sleep in. Breakfast with a view of the Brokenback Range, one more cellar door, a farm gate stop on the way home.

More than a dozen cellar doors. Olive groves. A hatted restaurant. And barely a queue in sight.

Save this one for when you’re ready. We’ll keep the fire going.

GOLD. It still hasn’t quite sunk in.

On 27 May, Broke was named Gold winner in the Tiny Tourism Town category at the 2026 NSW Top Tourism Town Awards. After two years of Silver, this one means the world.

And it doesn’t belong to a trophy cabinet. It belongs to every grower who got up early, every host who lit the fire before guests arrived, every volunteer who has ever set up a stall at the fair, and every visitor who took the quiet road and told a friend about it.

Thank you for believing in our quite side of the Hunter Valley. Next stop: the national Australian Top Tourism Town Awards in Canberra.

From all of us in Broke Fordwich, thank you.

A historic cottage, luxury riverbank glamping, and small-batch wines grown on the alluvial soils of the Wollombi Brook.

Broke Estate is a family-run property that lets you experience the valley at a much slower pace. You can settle into their restored 1890s fireplace-warmed cottage with a couple of friends, or spend the night under the stars in their luxury bell tent, complete with a private amenities pod and outdoor fire pit.

Because their estate-grown Shiraz, Chardonnay, and Barbera are only available online or at select events, waking up right among the vines is the ultimate way to enjoy them.

Head to the link in their bio to secure a winter dates or order a bottle straight from the family who grows it.

If your winter weekends involve slow-cooked meals and long dinners around the table, the lineup at Mahony Estate Wines is a natural fit.

Nestled in a pocket of Fordwich with a distinctly Mediterranean climate, this family-owned vineyard has spent more than 30 years cultivating classic Italian varieties like Barbera and Arneis. Their winemaking combines experience with traditional art, guiding the wine through a natural evolution to let the regional character shine.

It is a grounded, purposeful approach to winemaking that focuses entirely on how the wine is ultimately enjoyed, in partnership with good food, family and great company.

Stop by their cellar door this weekend to experience a piece of local history that has been quietly growing since 1990.

Friday: 11am - 3pm | Saturday & Sunday: 10am - 5pm
Location: 656 Milbrodale Road, Fordwich

🍷 ADD THIS TO YOUR DIARY - Mahony Estate are hosting a one-day celebration on 26th September called Festa Italiana Hunter Valley dedicated entirely to the food, music, and flavours of Italy. It’s an easy excuse to grab a spot on the balcony, take in the views over the rolling hills, and enjoy a relaxed afternoon. A 20-year local tradition is back this weekend.

Margan Wines & Restaurant is opening up their Barrel Room for their annual Barrel Hall Sale across the June long weekend. They are bringing out the rare stuff - museum wines, aged releases and older White Label parcels that usually stay strictly in the cellar.

They will also have special mixed dozens and mystery packs available. If you need to restock your own collection or just want to find something special to drink by the fire over the next few days, make sure to drop in and have a look.

The sale is happening in the Margan Cellar Door and Barrel Room from this Friday through Monday.

If you are looking for a spot to settle in by the fire this long weekend, Talits Estate Vineyard Estate is open every day from Friday through to Monday.

Their French-inspired cellar door is built for winter. It's an unhurried, intimate space where you can work your way through a tasting flight, or just grab a glass of Shiraz and linger by the fire.

If you are feeling hungry, they put together great cheese and charcuterie boards using local produce from Binnorie Dairy and Hungerford Meat Co. They also have barista coffee and homemade cakes, and if wine isn't your preference, they pour their own Broke Brewing craft beer on tap.

It is a really easy option if you have the whole family with you. There are outdoor games like pétanque down by the lake, and they are completely dog-friendly, so your pets are welcome to join.

They are open 10am to 5pm across the long weekend. Walk-ins are always welcome, but booking ahead is the best way to guarantee a table.
