We grew wine here until last year, so we've got opinions about where to send you. The good news is the best of it is close. The tranquil side of the Hunter keeps its cellar doors spread out and unhurried, which means you can taste alternative varieties out on Milbrodale Road, walk a sculpture park between glasses and still be back at the firepit before the light goes. Swipe for four we'd point any guest toward, all within about fifteen minutes of the front gate, plus one that saves you the drive entirely.

Bella takes her job seriously. Chief arrival concierge. She is on duty every sunset within earshot of the Cottage so she's the first to the car when a guest pulls in. She loves a pat and some of you already know she loves a treat and turn up with them in your bag. She does not need them. She would like it on record that she will be having them anyway.

These days she's also running the training program for Banjo and Bindi, two border collies who have a great deal to learn about sitting still, and not nearly enough interest in learning it. Bella is patient. Mostly.

Come and let her show you around.

Bernadette and Max are doing the Sh*tbox Rally. One Holden ute, $1,500, seven days from Mildura to Townsville via Hawker, Mungerannie, Beddourie, McKinlay, Karumba and Chillagoe. Max's third rally, Bernadette's second. The ute has been on every one of them.

The Sh*tbox Rally is Cancer Council's largest community fundraiser. Every team finds their own way to the start line. This raffle is ours, with a target of $10,000, every cent of it to Cancer Council via the team's fundraising page.

Too many people in our lives have been touched by cancer. Family, friends, colleagues, classmates and neighbours. Childhood cancer especially. That's where the weight sits for Bernadette and Max, and it's why they're back in the ute again.

The raffle is open now and closes Friday 26 June. The draw is Saturday 27 June, the day the rally finishes in Townsville. Three prizes from Broke Estate, with the hot air balloon flight in first prize donated by Beyond Ballooning | Hunter Valley Hot Air Ballooning. $25 a ticket, 400 tickets total. Link in bio.

Note: raffle tickets are not tax-deductible. To make a tax-deductible donation instead, our Sh*tbox Rally team page is linked in bio.

They have (almost) made it. Tomorrow is the final day of the rally and the teams will have completed 7 days of driving, in their buddy groups, across 3 states - embracing unsealed roads as much as possible. Early mornings, late nights, dress ups, new friends, returning friends and inspiring stories.

Tomorrow is also the last day to buy a raffle ticket to not only support Cancer Council, but also have a good chance of winning some great prizes. Link in bio and pinned post.

They are off. Bernadette & Max hit the road this morning, heading to Mildura for the start of the Sh*tbox Rally on Saturday.

We'll keep raising funds for Cancer Council right through the rally, with updates from the road as they come in. The raffle is live and 20% of tickets have already sold before the rally has even begun.

Your support has been something else. Team Still Broke's goal this year is $15,000 for Cancer Council.

The thing about the Bell Tent in winter is the light. From about three onwards the paddock changes colour and the mountain range goes a darker shade of itself.

Bell Tent with a heater. Hot shower and proper kitchen only ten steps away in the pod, wood stacked by the fire pit, two chairs facing west and a sky that goes properly black after the lights go out.

Bernadette and Max are driving in this year's Sh*tbox Rally. In a couple of weeks they'll set off in a car worth less than fifteen hundred dollars and head across some of the harder country in Australia to raise money for Cancer Council.

The Sh*tbox Rally is what it sounds like. A long way, in a car that probably shouldn't make it. Every year, a few don't. As much as the rally is a bit of fun, the crux of it is that cancer has touched so many of our lives, and continues to impact our friends, family, colleagues and community every single year. Just this year, a dear family friend is battling an incurable childhood brain cancer. No one should have to deal with that.

This raffle is our way of pushing the fundraising higher than we ever have before. Our overall goal for the rally is $15,000, and every ticket bought gets us closer. We've raised over $6,000 in donations and have just ticked past $1,000 in the raffle. Incredible.

Thanks to Anne K, Neville, Maree, Susan, Marg, Peta, Philippa, Therese, Valerie, Jordan, Antony, Marcella, Lea, Roy, Anne G and Kaye for your raffle tickets.

And to Neville, Sally, Vicki, Bob and Maria, Monica, Ian and Janet, Susan, Val and Norm, Vanessa, Melissa, Nick, Estelle, Alison, Morgan and Katey for your donations.

Three prizes drawn Saturday 27 June. Two nights at the Cottage with a hot air balloon flight and a Hunter Valley hamper. Two nights at the Bell Tent with a cheese platter on arrival. A six-pack of Broke Estate wine. Twenty-five dollars a ticket. Link in comments.

100% of proceeds go to Cancer Council Australia through the team's Sh*tbox Rally fundraising page. Raffle tickets aren't tax-deductible. If you'd rather take the deduction, the direct donation link is also in the comments.

We launched the raffle yesterday. Here's a closer look at first prize.

Worth $1,980. Every $25 ticket gets a chance at all three prizes. Prize 1 is drawn first.

400 tickets in total. Raffle closes Friday 26 June, draws Saturday 27 June. All proceeds to Cancer Council via Sh*tbox Rally.
