AI keeps changing, and now it's getting more expensive too. Prices are going up and usage limits are coming in across so many apps.

It's happening to me too. I was using Notion AI a tonne. It's the AI chat built right into Notion, the app that holds all my business data. Then I got a notification. It started off lovely: "You're one of our top Notion AI users!" And then: "We're going to charge you a lot more."

Turns out I was using a lot of AI.

I love to analyse my costs, and I'll never just tell you not to pay for stuff. Pay for the tools that help. But that notification meant I needed to change how I work with AI. Here's my current AI setup.

Notion is the data hub. All my documentation and databases live there, and all my other tools plug into it. That's the stable bit (the Autistic friendly bit).

The AI layer is the shifting bit. Right now that's roughly 70% Claude, 25% ChatGPT and 5% Notion AI, and they all talk to Notion.

Most of my skills live in Notion. That's about 95% of them (the instructions and workflows my AI follows), so any of my AI tools can use them.

Instead of fighting the constant change, I'm leaning into my ADHD side and embracing how in flux it all is. If a pricing email has you wondering whether to jump ship, you probably don't need to.

Somewhere in next week is a meeting, a favour or a commitment that felt fine when you agreed to it and doesn't now.

Cheri Strecker from WonderGlow OT was interviewing me for her podcast OTs Figuring It Out, and mid-recording we both stopped and looked at our calendars. We'd both let our weeks turn into a fabulous, overwhelming, tangled mess, so we each changed one thing on the spot.

I pencilled in an extra afterschool care day for my daughter so I could manage a busy time, instead of telling myself "oh, I should be fine to manage".
Cheri booked two early finishes to get back to her painting and take her dog for a walk.

The Neurodiversity Affirming (Un)Conference that I hosted 2 weeks ago was the biggest thing I've ever done. Two days, 18 speakers, and years of it popping into my head.

Now it's over, the odd bit is how little my effort had to do with my outcomes.

I lost a tonne of sleep overthinking every way it could go wrong. Wrong Zoom, wrong time zone, my internet dying. A week before the event, I shut out everything else and wrote what I dramatically called… my disaster plans.

I almost needed none of them. Some of that might be luck, some of it the planning, and a fact I have to face is that the event probably would've gone off fine on 20% of the effort. (Thanks anxiety! I'm working through this one with my psychologist!)

Meanwhile, my marketing effort was maybe 10 to 15% of what I'd planned, and I never believed my ‘stretch’ goal for ticket sales would happen. I went three tickets past it, despite not doing even a smidgen of my marketing plans. I think there's a lesson for me in that, still working this out!

Would I do it again, overthinking and all? Absolutely. (And I am in 2027!)

Here's what I want to leave you with: If you have a big idea, a big dream, a big scary thing (it doesn't have to be an event), maybe do a minimal version of it that allows you to prove to yourself that the big scary thing is worthwhile. Give it a go, because sometimes that big scary thing is just what you needed to do.

My AI is banned from saying these 8 words.

Untrained AI uses all of them way too much. In chats, and in content and drafts that it creates. So much content online sounds samey… sounds like it came from the same machine. Because it did.

Let me be clear: I use AI every day in my business and life. It's there to assist me, so I can do better work and elevate my role in the business, but I will not let AI bring my work quality down. It doesn't get to make up my thoughts and teaching.

FYI: I, human Adina, am typing these words right now! AI drafted this post, based on my thoughts and inputs, and I'm getting it from 95% to 'my' version of Good Enough to Share with You!

If you just let AI run rogue using its default styles, you're going to be seeing patterns of language that come up over and over. It's weird, and as a linguist it's fascinating, but I'm not keen for AI to shape the development of the language just because it's been accidentally over-trained on a few specific turns of phrase.

If AI is helping you with content creation, you must teach it your voice and style, and give it rules.

The way to get excellent quality content that AI helps you create is a 3-step system.
1. Inputs. AI needs a source of your ideas, thinking, style, voice, preferences. This is where my banned words list comes in!
2. Great repeatable systems and prompts that mean AI always refers back to these inputs when it's drafting or outlining for you.
3. Human-in-the-loop. Quality check, edit, make it yours.

Bonus step 4. Feedback loop where AI improves and improves each time as it helps you work out the gap between what it drafted and the result you got.

Some of my current words and phrases AI is banned from using (I have a visceral reaction to some of these!):
'Quietly'
'Sit with'
'Honest caveat'
'The spine/shape of [some vague concept]'.

I've been working hard to bring more outside, more creativity, more slowwwww into my life. I don't easily tend this way, but I'm always happier when I do!

I'm a bit easily hyperfocused on 'business' and 'tasks' by default. But I'm working on it.

Lately that's looked like getting a flippin 3D printer at home and finally learning how to use it. Doodling (not enough, but glad when I do!). A manicure on my 7 year old kiddo. Pausing to notice a fabulous display of old bottles (I've got a new-ish thing for old bottles).

This happened inside one of our members-only body double sessions, and it’s such a perfect example of why so many neurodivergent business owners get stuck when they’re trying to do everything solo.

I love to dabble.

Tools, apps, systems… it’s a special interest of mine. But dabbling doesn’t lead to results, more free time, or a business that grows sensibly.

What’s actually been shifting my business is seeing mini projects through to completion, one thing at a time.

And this is coming from somebody who’s pretty much done it all themself. I have a stubborn streak where I want to build everything from scratch, but every time I’ve pushed against that and let myself do it somebody else’s way, I’ve thanked myself profusely.
