2 things in renewable energy are going on. They are often confused.
1. Electrification
2. Source of electricity.
Electrification reduces energy required. Eg. g., an EV is 4 times more efficient than an ICE (85% vs 18%). A heat pump is 3x more efficient than gas (90% vs 300%).
At the same time, electricity demand is rising. Renewable energy has picked up the additional demand. The source of electricity currently is about 50% dirty but every year is getting cleaner.
We will use double the amount of electricity, half the amount of energy. Work that out. For EVs, the IEA have updated their projection for EVs in 2026. Again. Transport is 20% of emissions. The rise of EVs will increase electricity use (dirty or clean), but it will reduce oil demand. Those 20 million new EVs will reduce oil by 1 to 1.7 mbpd. 1% of total oil. Next year 2%.

Hydrogen is NOT a clean fuel.
The cleanest?
Domestic electrolysis from hydro, nuclear, or biomass, no long-distance transport, no conversion to ammonia or methanol, tight leakage control, no storage and a long project life.
A dirty one is 50 times worse.
Grid or coal-based production, conversion losses, transport, leakage, and cryogenic storage.

Came to the same conclusion in my Optimistic Storm, Part 3, Nuclear, Hydrogen, CCS, and biofuel fail.
The real issue is that batteries, along with wind and solar, are outcompeting hydrogen use cases.
When you look at the life cycle analysis of emissions, you can see why.

Hydrid PHEV vs Battery EVs. Sometimes, less really is more.
Is it easier to “just add a battery” and convert their vehicle into a hybrid?
They remove the original drivetrain and replace it with a modern electric architecture.
* cleaner, simpler, and more capable vehicle.
* Fewer moving parts.
* Reduced maintenance.
* Instant torque.
* Lower running costs.
Both use the Sun. EV- solar panel and an inverter. The other. Wait millions of years to concentrate, extract, transported, shipped, refined(boiled). Shipped.

$21,000 per person in NSW. That is the loss due to climate change today.
Time to stop thinking of climate change as “merely” an environmental issue.
Instead, we should recognise what it really is: a current and ongoing threat to our standard of living.
Neal and Newell show climate change has driven the cost of living, interest rates, investment in health, education and the labour market.
Their researcher estimate ranges from $4,900 to $39,000 (4%-33% range, 18% is best estimate)
Will dollars change the mind of our politicians on the right- the climate delayers and deniers?

Electric trucking in Australia could smash diesel imports and costs in less than 4 years. Transport accounts for 20% of the nation's emissions. Electric B-Double prime movers cost about 30 c/km for electricity, a third of diesel's cost. Analysis by David Leitch confirms that replacing the ~6,000 prime movers on the Sydney-Melbourne route saves over 4 billion litres. Payback in just 4 years. If expanded to Brisbane, it would account for about 54% of diesel imports. $10 billion in imports are gone. Sovereignty gained.
Why not?

🚗🔋 Is the era of petrol and diesel cars finally over? BYD seems to think so! They just launched the "Blade Battery 2.0," and it's a game-changer. 🚀 Imagine a 5-minute charge, a 1000km range, and a million km lifespan—all at a lower price. 😮
Smart Company is all praises, while oil companies might be a bit nervous. What do you think? Are we witnessing the end of an era? Share your thoughts!

While "gamechanger" is a common cliche. Sometimes announcements come along worthy of the word.
In April, CATL, the worlds largest battery manufacturer announced
* A range of 520 kilometers (km) with a five-minute charge
* Can go from 5% to 80% charge in 15 minutes in cold weather.
* can be charged at rate of 1,300 kW by very fast MW charger.

Meanwhile BYD - the second largest global battery manufacturer announced in Sept 2025
* Survived the "nail" test - the safest battery in the world
* twice as dense as LFP Batteries
* Range of over 600km.

Every announcement - another 10% improvement spells the end of petrol and diesel transportation - cars, buses, trucks, and ships.
For more on this in my nook OptimisticStorm.com - spells the end of fossil fuel (gas, oil)

Mistrust in science has been on the rise for decades.
- This growing mistrust is primarily fueled by political polarisation.
- It's amplified by partisan media and social media algorithms.
- The spread of misinformation contributes to the lack of trust.
- Mistrust varies across different groups, including age, rural vs. urban populations, and political affiliations.
- A key factor in science trust is political ideology.
- Conservatives and those with authoritarian beliefs are more likely to distrust scientific information, especially concerning climate change and vaccines.
- In contrast, liberals tend to trust science and follow scientific recommendations.

In my book Optimistic Storm, we review the impact of mistrust and how it is driven by fossil fuel companies and other bad actors.
